Bashen lake in East haddam had 2" in the coves before Christmas and this warm weather.  No safe ice midstate that I know of.

Had 5-6 inches in the NW this past saturday but it was fading with the warm weather, and this storm is probably making it worse. Was hoping to make another trip up new years day but might skip it if they get a ton of rain. Don't think anything in the east is good anymore but I haven't checked myself since the weekend before Christmas, and only found 2.5 inches in Lebanon then, before the warm up.

I can imagine those hilly roads are a nightmare when they get slick.

I miss the old days before the internet, seems the only problem we had back then was “how much” we had to hand drill. It seems like its been 10 years or more that we had to drill through 18” of ice in New Haven County.

Now it seems like every year we have to beg for safe ice.  ???

Happy New Years all hope we get some bone shattering cold soon.

No lakers (that you can ice fish for) and only a few spots for eyes but definitely a fun atate to fish in.  That said I saw plenty of ice tight to shore on my ride to work today from Kent to Farmington.

I was answering about Mass lakes.  I use to chase these there all the time.  Then I caught this, didn't feel I'd ever get a bigger one and switched to chasing lakers in NY.

Female full of eggs.  If you look you can see where the eggs are all bunched up.  She was shallow, probably looking for structure to rub on to break up the eggs before laying them.  Someone on here taught me that.

No idea.  Over 25lbs I'd guess.  Girth was larger than 25" because she more than filled the 8" hole.  I was fishing alone and it was cold AF so I only took time to bring her into the hub for hook removal and then release.  No frozen eyes!

Another shot:

Thats from Mass Flagup!  Go get em.

Usually fishing for Mr. walley or trout, but been wanting to go for pike.  Ice fishing in CT isn't looking so good, so I might have to give it a try.     If you don't mind a tag along let me know when your going again and maybe I can meet up with you.   You can learn me something.  ;D

After that fish I pretty much stopped fishing for pike outside of goofing around with endless smaller pike on champlain once or twice a year.  Lakers have had my attention for the past few years, the fishing is a lot more active.  Also, from my experiences you are much better off fishing alone or with 1 other person that doesnt mind being quiet on the ice.  Seemed to make a big difference for me.
