I went from a sunflower heater on a stand to the flex this year. Getting the sunflower heater to light in anything colder then -15c was a pain and was always awkward to pack. So far the flex has been easy to light in -20c and packs in the sled really nice. I really like how there is room on top of the flex to warm up frozen minnows or gloves. I don't think it's by design but it works great. I still use my 1lb tank top cooker but I also have a stand that came with another heater by coleman which really helps stabilize the bottle, don't ever worry about it tipping. I will probably get the cooker accessory for the flex when I see it on sale. I think it will help bring the heater off the ice a bit to stop melting.I also see them coming out with a fan accessory and some others for the flex.Sorry no input into the big buddy. I see everyone uses them though. I haven't looked into weight comparisons yet but should.

I love the idea of this but the fact that its 2 speperate and kinda bulky units makes me wonder...i dont need this do i?also i couldnt help but notice in a video i watched, when looking to the heater the quick hose connect is on the right side of the heater, then the other end plugs into the right side of the cooker...this seems, off. looks awkward..seems the heater should have connection on right and cooker on left for streamline connection...
I have the little buddy single bottle heater that I fashioned the cooking grate to the top of and love it. I just heat up precooked stews and chili but it works perfect in my 2 man shanty and does double duty heating and cooking. I just bought the Big Buddy MH18B model that has 2 tanks and a fan I plan to use in my big Otter XT Pro Resort shanty. I will fashion some sort of cooking/heating grate on it as well. The new Big guy also has a quick connect to bypass the 1 pound tanks and use a 5 or 20 pound external tank instead. The hose for that option is a bit costly at around $55 but I might spring for it if I find it on sale or used one of these days. I ran both heaters side by side in my garage last week just to see how much more heat the big one put out and if the fan actually makes much difference and I was blown away literally. The big buddy on high setting with the fan blowing sure does pump out lots of heat and I doubt I will ever need the fan or the high setting in the big Otter flip.My one and only complaint with all of these Mr. Heaters is the pilot light getting blown out with the slightest wind.
I thought they discontinued the fan on those? Doesn't show it in their manual, either....
Oh, I thought you just bought it.....clears that up! I wanted to get one, IF they had the fan....Thanks!
Thinking about going from my Circa 2000 Portable Buddy and upgrading to the Hunting Buddy..lil more BTUs . Now to find a deal .
