                 Good morning ER's,
It's 63* with a little less humidity, a high of 77* today with no rain in the forecast. ::)
Tom.........That's great feat your friend has achieved reaching 100, I hope the party was nice!
Steve.......My part time neighbors from Cornwall came up Friday night, they said the rain on the trip up was like a water fall.
Also most of Cornwall was out of power!
Yesterday I sharpened some mower blades for MW, he was suppose to bring me some more wood but never saw him, hum! ???
Not much going on here today, might take my wife and window shop for a new car for here, her lease is almost up. I like going
on Sundays when the dealers are closed so we can get an idea and not be hounded bu a salesman. :%$#!:
I hope everyone has a good Sunday either at work or out fishing!

Good Morning Jeff, Morning Everyone,
Same forecast as Jeff here on the Hill today, just a few degrees warmer as I type, 66 and cloudy.

Jeff...good luck with the car shopping today, know what you mean about the salesmen...
Tom...hope you had a great time at your friends 100th B'day party, Congratulations to him!         Are you familiar with Grosse Point Woods? There's a Little League team from there trying to work there way up the bracket to the Little League World Series. They won there first game and play Hawaii today, believe they play at 2pmEST and ABC will be covering it.  Will be pulling for them!
Bud...hope the job is still going well for you! Small world I guess, I said my " I do's " in Golden 34 years ago not far from the Coors Brewery.   ;D
Steve...we did make it to the fair, and you're absolutely right about the garden wall, lol. Seems like even the smallest of jobs there have major issues.  How's everything going with the house?
Wally...best wishes with the motor, hope it's back soon purring like a kitten!
Marv...hope you had a great visit with your brother, anxious to hear how the new baits did with the bears!

We had a real nice time taking the grand kids to the fair, weather was good from early afternoon on. Parking areas were a muddy mess from the rains and we saw some very unhappy fair goers on our way out stuck in what looked like mud bogs....Doh!
Believe it was the 125th year of The Altamont Fair this year.  Read an article there saying the cost of admission was 25 cents when it opened in 1893 and the ticket sales reached $884 for the 4 day event. It cost me $76 to walk through the gate...$19 per person, unlimited rides. These traditional things are getting pretty pricey nowadays... ;D
  Cawfee's on....
Have a great day all, be safe, best of luck to those fishing!

Good morning IW,Eddie see Whopper Stopper is on line might be up loading new bear footage. Cloudy skies might see more rain today thinking of making a road trip across the Hudson river to a local farmer's market in northern Dutchess county. Heard on TV last night one of our local rivers might have claimed the lives of a father and son there raft flipped on the Neversink river search starts again this morning. Hopefully they are found somewhere on shore line . Seems every year people drown in one of the local rivers especially after periods of extended rain.
Ice Wanderer thankfully I have not lost power yet from rain/thunder storms. Like my town Cornwall has many trees always a chance of branches, trees coming down on power lines. Good luck with the car shopping. A safe journey home for your step daughter/step grand daughter.
Eddie glad you got to the fair nice it is unlimited rides with admission fee. My county fair you pay to enter then have to purchase a separate ticket to see any acts preforming on the main concert stage also believe you need to buy ride tickets.  Do anyone inspect work areas or just go by old blue prints  to make plans.

Have a good and safe day everyone. Be careful if fishing here in the North East water levels high after all the rain.

Low 60's here this morning. Saw my first boat hit bottom out front yesterday. You can see the tops of rocks and logs on the sand bars they all say the same thing. "I was here two weeks ago and didn't have a problem." Back in the day my uncle made a lot of money late in the Summer.
When I was talking to my brother on Friday he told me a friend has picked 11 gallons of blackberries, so far. He is south of here and had more rain. The berries are not that good up here this year. They are small and the seeds are big.
Looks like we will have a couple good fishing days this week. Planning on having my friend come up and get his supply of walleyes. (I hope)
Have a good day...h2l

What a great day yesterday at my friend's 100th birthday party. People kept coming in the door. Floyd was all smiles as his old friends came in the door. I got to see old friends that I had not seen in years. I noticed one guy pushing an older woman in a wheel chair and could not figure out who he was. When he sat down on the other end of the table from me I realized that it was a classmate of mine with his mother.

ww The main desert at the party was PIE as Floyd was not fond of cake. The family spent three days baking pies using real pie crust. I have not had that great of pie crust since my mother died. They had made over 50 pies.

Before the party we went to look at a small craft store that had been opened a few years ago by an old friend and her daughter. The friend was not there but the daughter told me to stop on my way home and her mother would be there. it was great to see her mother after not seeing her since my sons were in grade school where she worked. Her mother and I go back to the late 40's.

Eddie I have not been to our local fair in years as it got to be the same thing every year. The only thing I went for was the 4-H exibits and their animals. The only other thing I miss is the taffy made by the same family forever.

Gross Point Woods is in the SE part of the state that I stay away from if possible. I have watched some LL World Series games over the years. I will have to watch this game if I do not forget about it. I was glad when the grand daughter grraduated HS so I did not have to go to Detroit for marching band competition. it was held at the Dion Lions Stadium right down town.

Good Morning Everyone,
It's 58* on the Hill this am, , high of 75 today.

Tom..sounds like it was one heck of a party for Floyd, that's awesome! Glad you got a chance to meet up with lots of your old buddy's as well.   The Michigan team had its hands full playing against Hawaii yesterday, but they're not done just yet..need to beat the MidWest team today at 3pm to stay alive.
H2..some much nicer weather for the next few days anyway, best of luck with the walleyes!
Steve...how was the farmers market? As far as the planning and prints, there were several on site meetings with the architect and higher ups. Apparently nobody caught the problems associated with the existing wall we are tying into amongst several other problems, especially where the actual grade point is located. :cookoo:  I've become a firm believer that an architect should have to serve a 5 year apprenticeship in each trade before being allowed to draw up those pretty pictures...jmo.   ;D
Jeff..hope the car shopping went well.
Wally...hope you get some good news on the motor today!
Marv...looking forward to your report Sir!

Hope everyone had a nice weekend!
It was nice to see member Drifter post some cabin porn again! He had some unfortunate problems this trip, glad he's ok and the cabin is still moving forward!
Time to get ready for another week of fun at the Mansion...cawfee's on!     ;D
Have a great day all, be safe, best of luck to those fishing!

Good morning Eddie, Good morning ER's,
It's 67* and less humid here on my hill, some days ahead. ::)
Eddie......When I worked construction I use to say the same thing, engineers think they have to do some crazy design to impress
the higher ups without thinking that a simple design would be just as good and less expensive. :cookoo:
Tom......The party sounded great, I bet he was a happy man after the party. It was nice that you were able to catch up with old friends.
Wally.....I bet Mr. WW will be chomping at the bit waiting to find out about the motor!
Steve.... Did score some good veggies at the farmers market? ???
H2L.......Good luck out there this week. I hope your friend can go home with some nice eyes! :flex:
We didn't get to go car shopping, people kept stopping by.
I hope everyone has a good Monday either at work or out fishing.

Good Morning ER's a little cooler here finally. Thought I might score another shack but it was a huge 3 man flipover. The tube test went well on the lake across and back with a mini surf board float for the table. No flippers or outer skin just paddled with my arms. Next time I'll add the flasher on the surf table if that works out ok mount something on the table to hold 1 maybe 2 ice rods. TT sounds like a great party. Eddie hope your work week gets straightened out ok. WW hope your motor isn't to bad off. I'm glad Drifter is ok wow that sounds like a creepy chain of events. Have a good week all.

Good Morning Everyone

It sounds like everybody had a good weekend  It sure seemed like it flew by.

We had an excellent trip to my brothers, he really rolled out the red carpet. The wife and I took some time to drive by Lake Winnebago. For those not familiar it is one of the only lakes anywhere where there is a sturgeon spearing season every year. The WI DNR has a regulated season set up for the harvest of a limited number of the prehistoric looking fish. People from all over invade the lake every February trying to get a throw at one of the massive fish. We took in a couple of sports shops and looked at some of decoys and huge spears, some with $350 price tags.

We eventually made it to the shack and grabbed the cards out of the cameras and put more bait out. Things were pretty quiet as the temps had been around 90 during the last week. My understanding is that bears don't have sweat glands and as a result when temps get that warm they head to water and lay very low. We had a lot of videos but many were late night. There has also been a big nut drop throughout the woods and I am afraid the bears are spending a lot of their time eating them.

I picked out a couple of videos, hope you enjoy them.

Hope you all have an excellent day  Stay safe!

I got thinking last night. I think I have been friends with Floyd for 65 years of his 100 years.

Eddie I need your expertise on getting rid of nasty stinging bugs. I started to weed whack around the deck yesterday when I was attacked by yellow jackets coming from under the one step to the deck. I got hit four times before I got away from them. One got under my back brace and hit me twice before I could get it off. Getting any spray to the nest is almost impossible. Luckily I am not allergic to the stings so far anyway. I forgot about the LL game yesterday after getting stung.

I have said may times that architects and engineers need to work 5 years in the field before they are allowed to put out any prints. Maybe they would get some common sense on what it takes to follow their stupid ideas.

ww My mother always used lard in her pie crusts. Sadly I do not have a lot of her recipes as she would make me what I asked for. I still have not tried the last rhubarb pie recipe you posted.

We have a couple of mechanics that make dock calls when we have problems so I do not have to pull my toon if some the motor needs fixing. Luckily it was only your kicker motor with the problem so it could be taken to the mechanic not the whole boat.

The wife got a bushel of the bushel and a half  of tomatoes canned yesterday that she bought from the woman we got the corn from. She only paid $5 for them as the woman wanted to get rid of them as she and her husband we going away for the week end knowing they would be no good when they got home.

IW Shopping for cars and dealing with pushy sales men is not fun!! It took us 4 hours to get the deal done on the last car we bought.

Good morning nice to see a sunny day after all the recent rain also enjoying lower temperatures and humidity. I never made it to the farmers market but did go out for a ride yesterday afternoon to nice of a day to spend at home.
Tom Turkey sounds like it was a great party for your friend nice that you also got to see some of your other friends during the trip.
Old Goat happy to read your float tube modification worked .
Wallyworld yesterday was perfect for a bike ride. Any word from mechanic yet on kicker motor.
Eddie I agree with your and Mr.Turkey's comments think it should be a requirement for architects to visit buildings they designed after the building has been used for a few years and ask occupants what is good and bad about their design.
Ice Wanderer maybe you can get out next weekend to look at cars.
Whopper Stopper thanks for the videos hope the does in one video bring a nice buck by the bear bait station if you plan to deer hunt in that area. Good variety of wildlife at your Shack property. Guessing you were still at shack when I saw you listed among members on-line yesterday morning or you had problems loading videos onto your computer.
Hunts2long may you have a great time with your friend and find some trophy walleyes.

Last I heard search was still on for missing father and son looking like it will become a body recovery mission.  I'm including a hyperlink to my local newspapers website article on local farm sweet corn  some of you might find interesting. Have a safe and good day. Best to all Fishing.

Good Morning Everyone,
Mostly cloudy and 64* this am, high of 74 today with some rain possible by late afternoon.

I-45...best wishes today, sorry to read the headaches returned...did they determine the cause?
Steve...sad news about the father and son, hope they recovered the bodies yesterday. Seem to be having problems with my IPad getting to that link, will try the not so smart phone...thanks for sharing!     Any good news on the house yet?
Tom...glad you're alright after the stings, damn! Those yellow jackets are just plain nasty. No expert here on bees by any means lol, guess I'd start by figuring where they're coming in and out of...be careful Tom! Saw the Grosse Point team is still alive as they won again yesterday, they play Georgia today....best of luck to them!
Marv..great picture and story behind the sturgeon spearing, that's got to be something else seeing a fish that big moving in on your decoy! Glad you had a great time with your brother, and as always, thanks for the excellent videos!
Wally...hope you got some good news yesterday on the motor!   All things considered, guess the admission fee wasn't really terrible for the unlimited rides, it was probably more about what limited rides they could go on. They reached that age where the kiddy rides are now too small and most of the bigger rides are to big, lol.
OG...congrats on the tube mod, sounds like it worked out well for you! Good luck with the next trip fishing!
Jeff...it's funny how that works when you've got something planned and people start stopping by, lol. Did you get a chance yesterday to look around at some cars?

We got a scaffold and plank delivery yesterday, so things are slowly moving forward anyway. Waiting on a brick delivery, 12,000 coming soon.
There was about 600 bricks left over from the last wall we did, so today we're going to use them up on a few courses below grade so we can finish up the backfilling and establish some type of grade to at least set the scaffold up.  The suggestion box had quite a few entries yesterday.... :roflmao:
  Cawfee's on...
Have a great day all, be safe, best of luck to those fishing!

                 Good morning  ER's,
                         It's 60*  but the humidity is 99%, it doesn't feel it.  ::)
Steve.......My wife decided to go car shopping yesterday, well she ended getting a new Nissan Rogue, it a nice car and $60 less a month
than her previous Altima.  She likes to lease, that way she gets a new car every 3 years.
Marv........Again nice videos, you should have a good hunt this fall. :flex:
Tom.........Those pesty yellow jackets, wait till night time to spray the area. ???
I-45.........Sorry to hear that the headache returned, it might have something to do with your back.
Wally........I hope you get word on the motor today. ???
I just heard that PETA has been complaining about the box of Animal Crackers, so Nebisco has removed the bars from the cages on the box. :cookoo:
Come on it's only a drawing on a box. :%$#!:
I see Eddie posted while I was typing, that's a s#!t load of bricks! :woot:

We finally are getting a decent rain after so many missed guesses all summer. Nice easy rain instead of a down pour that runs off. It looks like around an inch in the rain gauge. The rain just picked up.

Killing off the bees is not going to be easy. They are in the step up from ground level to the deck. No way to get to the nest easily. I am hoping for a good cool down into the 50's so I can take one of the boards off of the step so I can get to the nest at night. They are coming in and out through where the step board has humped up with the normal humping of a board with the bark side up.

IW Nissan makes some good vehicles. A Rouge would be  too small for me as I am always hauling some thing. I can remember the first add that PITA had on tv when the came here after starting in the UK. I showed a bunch of women dancing with fur coats on with blood dripping out of the bottom of the coats.

WS  More enjoyable videos. Especially the one of the cub bending the tree over to get at what you had put on it.

We have only one lake where sturgeon spearing is allowed. Most years it only takes a matter of hours to meet the quota of fish. There is an open water season on I think the Detroit River each summer. I have not seen much on it this year. I think that most of the ones caught are released.

MR C Letting the archetects design some thing is to late. They need to have experiance in the field before the can put their stamp on a print so they do not make the stupid mistakes.

Every time we have high water it seems like some kayackers get in trouble. There are Red Flag warnings on the Lake Michigan shore line this moring due to the high surf. A few weeks ago many people ignored the Red Flags at Grand Haven resulting in two drowndings and three in the hospital in criticle condition.

Eddie The job at the mansion has sure been a screwed of mess. I am sure all of the crew will be glad when it is over.

Good Morning Everyone

Seems like a busy morning already on this hazy day. I got my walk in and knocked Walmart off the list. I am going to head over to the rifle range in an hour and spend some time burning a little powder.

Eddie you had commented on the sturgeon fishing. Myself being an avid spearer, I have mixed feelings on the spearing of those massive fish. I have seen them in the spear house a couple of times and they will get your pulse  elevated. I figure if the DNR is monitoring the activity as close as they are, then harvesting a few of them is OK. It's just hard to think about a 150 pound fish that's roamed the lake for 100 years is possibly going to be harvested. I plan on going over there this February and watching the party. Many families have joined in this honored tradition and listening to grandpa giving advice to everyone has to be a hoot :roflmao:

WW hope the motor issue gets fixed soon.

TT great reflection on your friend  Glad you were able to take it in.

45 good luck with the injections

Tomorrow morning I am heading to the shack to replenish the bait. I will probably leave the cards in the cameras.

Hope you all have an excellent day  Stay safe!

                Good morning ER's,
It's 64* and very windy here on my hill, rain is in the forecast for today. ::)
Wally.......... I hope the wind isn't blowing out on Erie for your fishing trip.
Bud.............It doesn't seem like they know what they are doing.  :cookoo:  I hope they even open. ???
I-45............Do the injections work right away. What are they injecting?
My wife picked up her new car yesterday, while I was watching my Tuesday grand kids. When my wife drove in I think they were more
                 excited than she was. :woot:
I hope everyone has a good day either at work or out fishing.

67* rain and wind. Get it out of its system today. Will be fishing the next two days. Weather looks good. Talked to a guy coming off the lake yesterday, he said water temp was 73, so it has cooled some.

WW, glad to hear you will be getting back on the water. Good Luck. 1 pie and 6 tomatoes, great deal.

Have a good day...h2l

Good day, had some rain over night very heavy at times still cloudy might see another shower before day ends. Sad ending to missing father-son story their bodies were found Monday afternoon.
Icefisher-45 hope doctors can find answer to your head ache problem I'm wondering if your body is having some type of reaction to one of the medications your taking.
Wallyworld have a great trip. Glad the kicker motor frepair was simple and only cost you 1 pie and some tomatoes. Assuming you are good friends with the mechanic.
IFF ditto Wallyworld's thoughts might be time to go back to job you had after Gander Mountain closed.
Hunts2long may your friend and you have a good trip on Sacandaga .
Tom Turkey may be wiser to hire a professional to deal with yellow jackets . Emergency room visits are not cheap if you were to receive multiple stings. Glad you finally got some of the rain your area needs so badly.
Ice Wanderer all the best to your wife with her new Rouge .
Eddie that is a big load of bricks ,how many bricks are laid /placed on average per day.
Whopper Stopper hope you had fun at the gun range. How thight shoot grouping are you shooting with all of your practice.

Have a good day .best to all fishing.
Steve

IW glad the kiddos and the Mrs. have a new ride. IT got into low 50's last night and the night before some areas got 15 inches at once. No way in no way out unless you have a watercraft. Hope for the best expect the worst and take what you get. The week is almost over.

Good Morning Everyone,
63* with a nice breeze this am, high of 72 here today. Don't know what happened to yesterday's post....wonder where the heck they end up?

OG...wow, that's some crazy amounts of rain!! Hope there's no more in the forecast.
Steve...very sad ending to the missing father and son, what a shame. You asked about average numbers of bricks laid per day...kind of a difficult question to answer because each job is different and there are so many variables. For instance, this wall has an arched door opening that will require some tedious work with a lot of saw cuts etc., time consuming work. My best answer to this question which is asked all the time is ....8 hrs. worth.  ;D.    I'll be doing counts everyday when we get going, will keep you posted.
I-45...hope they can figure out the problem soon Sir, best wishes and  to your wife!
Wally...great news and price on the motor fix, awesome!     Hope you and Mr.WW had safe travels to Erie and the walleyes are on fire today!
H2...best of luck to you also today Sir, hope it's a double digit day!
Jeff...congrats to your wife on her new ride and lower payment to boot, excellent!     That's just absurd about the animal crackers, Good Lord, when will it stop.
Marv...was wondering about those sturgeon. Do they donate the fish to homeless shelters or something after the contest? I understand they are edible...it sure would be ashame if they went to waste.

Rainy morning yesterday kept us inside replacing some rotted and damaged door frames, what a PITA. They had another  "meeting of the minds " again at the wall on Tuesday to figure out some of the problems we were faced with. We weren't invited.... ;D.   About 10:30, we were told to pack it up as the Governor was having a luncheon, so today we'll start back where we left off trying to get this wall out of the ground, lol.
Looks like a lot of variables on this job Steve.... :roflmao:
  Cawfee's on...
Have a great day all, be safe, best of luck to those fishing!

Good Morning Eddie and all ER's the rain took out a road, some RR Tracks and sorry to say I think there was one death. There is more rain on the way but not until late tonight or tomorrow hopefully not to much. I thought here we escaped ok there was no water in basement however the following day I spent a few hours downstairs on water removal. Mason good luck on the wall today. Fished after water issues under control and smacked some nice perch from shore on a breakwater walkway with the ice rod. The water levels are very high and we only got 4-5 inches when it came. Hope everyone has a nice Thursday.

Good Morning Eddie! good Morning Everyone

62 heading into the 80's later today.

Eddie the sturgeon are best known for their caviar. My dad used to say if you like smoked fish, nothing better than smoked sturgeon. I never had either.

Went to the shack yesterday and all was quiet at the pit. I didn't even have to bait as everything was still there. The acorns were falling and it seems between the berries and acorns the food supply is pretty good.

WW good luck on the fishing trip  Hope the fish keep you busy.

IW hope all is well with you. Glad the new car was a hit with the kids

Time to get ready for my walk. Hope you all have an excellent day! Stay safe.
