Slip floats---anyone else use?

I fish for small lakers. Quite often they bite very lightly. A buddy who uses slip floats got me started using them. I use a modified version of the clip-on yellow foam ones. He uses those with holes in the middle. Quite often the float bobs around for a few seconds, then gets taken under. Then it's time to set the hook. I don't fish for panfish but I would imagine they would be quite effective sometimes with perch, crappie etc.

You might like to check out the "Venom Floats" home page. They are like the yellow foam floats, but can be adjusted for the lures you use without cutting the foam to achieve neutral buoyancy. They have videos on their site.

How would using a slip float compare to a spring bobber? I've used those when dealing with light strikes but have never tried a slip float

I use to use slip floats a lot.  Since getting a flasher, I haven't used my slip floats for ice fishing.

Maybe ok if your hut fishing. Seams like a pain, some else to deal with ice interference.

If I'm fishing two holes in the shack, I'll drop a minnow on a bare hook under a bobber. Ice busters are what i use

I often use a venom float for my deadstick.  I can adjust buoyancy until it barely floats.  Works great.  I use two of the rubber bobber stops a short distance apart - two because I want to know when they have moved and need to be readjusted.  I used to use a spring bobber but when it is windy - it is difficult to judge.

Slip bobber are my go-to for deadstick fishing in a shack. They suck when fishing outside in cold weather due to icing up.

I like to use one slipfloat when I have two holes going. Jig in one and dead stick the other.  Give it a lift once in a while. Caught a few this way sircranksalot😀
