Micro plastics / artificial baits
« on: Oct 17, 2010, 08:54 PM »
I'm thinking about trying some of these this year, but have never used them before. I've heard that Gulp Alive Fish Fry is good, but wanted to hear what other people use. What size and color would you recommend? I'll probably be fishing mostly clear water and fairly shallow (10 or less fow) if that makes a difference.

With the smaller plastics make sure you downsize your lure too.  I really like the Gulp! Alive Fish Fry, fluorescent orange and green.  I also like the Gulp! Alive 1" minnow, minnow heads, and the maggots (pink or white).  I use the minnow heads and maggots on different spoons.  I will occasionally use the maggots on a horizontal and vertical jig too.  The fish fry and 1" minnow I use a horizontal presentation with a small jig.  Some of the same techniques will work for perch and crappie too.

I picked up some Gulp Maggots (pink). Probably be picking up some Gulp Alive Fish Fry too. I could only find the glow ones, which I considered getting, but decided to wait to see if I could find some different colors. I also got some from KJB Plastics, they had a lot of different colors and styles. I picked a couple styles that were similar to some stuff people said was working for them. Got various colors.

Use ISG and Little Atom plastics.  Purple and pink were the popular colors last year.  Fin

I like to keep a bunch on hand just in case I forget to resupply live bait. I've seen them work and I've seen them not work, like most everything else, including live bait!
Good luck!

I have had good results with Maki plastics. I don't like Gulp at all and for the jigs I use Gulp is too big.
