Title: Wisconsin trip
Post by: fishinator on Jan 16, 2020, 12:55 PM
Some friends and I are headed to Onalaska Wisconsin to fish the backwaters late February. Any of you Indiana guys ever made the trip? I have gotten some good information from the Wisconsin board but figured I'd put it here too. I know some members don't stray far from the Indiana board.

Been several years but our group would go up every year. They always got early ice and there is tons of places to fish. We crossed the river also and fished iowa side. Take tip ups with you and sit out some chubs or shinners for pike and anything else that are in the area. I can't really remember the sloughs names we fished but I suggest just watching and asking bait shops questions. You should get a real nice mixed bag of fish. Have fun and be sure to report back. Might have to make a trip up if we don't get ice soon around here.

We caught some walleyes at this spot in Lacrosse. We stayed in Desoto and I didn't consider it out of the way.

Thanks for the info.  A buddy of mine was out there many years ago and fished the backwaters.   Not sure where.  Back then there were no limits on the Mississippi.   He always talks about wanting to go back.

Had a good time. Took several miles of walking and hand drilling through 15 to 18" of ice. First few days were rough but finally found some eater size perch on the final afternoon.
