This should be interesting. About 5 years ago the lake froze despite the wind and lake effect snow. I could see that happening today or tonight.

The weather channel says 3”-5” from the “storm”?  If that wind stays up it could just blow off anyway.

Everything looks like it depends on when it locks up. If locked b4 heavy wind should be ok for a little snow to blow off if it freezes while snowing heavy we all need to be careful out there.

The West end was froze over on my way in to work. The North Shore cam shows that froze over too. A big contrast from what the Chapman cam looks like. You can see all the ice in the background though. It kind of looks like that is the only area without ice right now.

It’s still open water with thin floating ice pieces right now down here. It looked like it was locked but the dark areas aren’t clean ice, they’re open.

Was watching some old open water videos that mentioned Sugarloaf Bar... I think it is on the east end of Shackelton Shoal... can anyone confirm the location? Navionics doesn't show it by name. Thanks.

Thanks scout57,
So it is just the name given to the east side of Shackelton I take it.

Wow does that name (SugarLoaf) bring back memories. My Dad a WW2 vet (Marine Raiders) fought at a place called Sugar Loaf Hiil or ridge. I believe on Bouganville. I know nothing to do with the topic. Just wanted to share.

I watched a guy walk out with a spud bar on the sunset cam around 3:30 today.
He was just carrying a spud bar, walked right out without checking the ice until he was quite a ways out.
Looked like he was trying to cut a hole with the spud bar or was checking thickness, then left.

I just looked again and someone appears to be fishing.
