Footwear?
« on: Nov 12, 2007, 11:14 AM »
With the ice approaching, I am considering replacing my boots with something more serious. I currently have an old pair of sorels. They do well enough but are on the way out and not necessarily made for serious ice fishing. I was interested in what everyone uses and recommends? I am a panfish chaser and pulling a fish trap so weight and bulkiness are a concern. Thanks!
"I'd rather be fishing" one sentence sums it up!

Cabelas Snowy Range 1200 - $89.95 - 5lbs per pair - waterproof & warm.
Same pair 4th year no problems yet, and for under $100.00 thats not bad.
Most comparable to Rocky blizzard Stalker @ $110.00.
If you have really wide feet you might want to consider the Rocky or Lacrosse.

Good Luck,
Wellsy

I have always had great success with Sorels but I will admit I'm not as hardcore as some others on this site.

Cabela's Predator Extreme Pac Boots.  Got a pair of them last year, because LaCrosse stopped making the Ice Kings.  They are on sale right now for about $110.  Well worth the money, I think.  I hope the link will paste ok.  I never seem to do it right on this site, if not, can someone fix it for me???  Thanks.

I love my ice kings.  Before I had the money, I went with these http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=88570
I used mine for almost 5 years with zero complaints.

i use 1000 gram lacrosse rubber boots, obviously waterproof, the ankle fit gives some ankle support wich is good when walking on ice where you dont know whats under the snow or where an old hole is :-\ i used to go with the pac boots but they lost all ankle support after a year and felt "floppy" on my feet. i would guess anything that is 100% waterproof and warm is obvious, but you need to feel it on your foot first, ice fishing is long hours and if the boot doesnt feel right, it makes for a long trip. feet are usually the first to go, either getting cold or being sore and cause you to leave the ice early, keep that in mind

I used Mickey Mouse boots for a lot of years and they were the best thing around in their time. Now there are a lot of boots out there with better insulation and a LOT lighter weight. My 1000 gram Thinsulate Rocky's are like keeping my feet in front of a fireplace when just sitting all day in extreme cold.
My next pair will likely be LaCross or what ever is not made in China, or Mexico, or Viet Nam, (etc.). I will go with American or Canadian products anytime.

LaCrosse Ice Kings are great and they are still being made since some writers said they aren't making them any more. Bought a pair at Gander Mountain. They also have a boot called Alpha Iceman which is really light weight but cost $139. Wore them to a Packer game and kept me warm.

LaCrosse Ice Kings - I've had them for 10 years and still haven't had to replace the liners. I hate to say it, but unless it is really cold out - they are a bit too warm.
