LG water temperature gauge was re calibrated but has been reading the exact same temperature (37.51 degrees) for last several days.  I find that hard to believe that since it reads to I/100 of a degree.  Probably stuck or just does not report correctly.  Nonetheless, water needs to cool off with some cold  and calm nights to freeze up.

I just did a quick and couldn’t get an accurate water temp. It’s gotta be ready it’s been cold, my weather app shows below freezing until Wednesday. It’s a nail biter. I can not be out 2 years in a row.

Northern wind vs near zero temperatures. When wind >5mph comes down LG's length the water is rough. We'll see. Even if it freezes, there's a warmup and rain coming. I'm not too optimistic about this year, days are getting longer..

Hello all, wondering if anyone knows if Rogers Rock had an ice skim yet or is it just down in town? We have our annual trip scheduled for the week of 2-19. We stay in Hague. Thanks for any info. Take care.

There was a guy yesterday coming off the water around 10 AM and he had been out solo trolling for waldos since before dark on Saturday.

I drove back from an unproductive day of ice fishing at a small Hamilton county lake, and had time to drive through LG village and then along the east shore on route 9L while driving back home

MDB had NO ICE at all.

Dunham's bay, Harris bay and Kattskill bay all had a skim out to a few hundred feet, but I'll bet a goose feather landing on it would be enough weight to break it. Just driving past it, it was easy to observe that it was not anywhere close to something that could be walked on.
The Ultimate Warrior is possessed with great power from the heavens above ! Against the mighty lake trout and pike and schools of crappie, the power of the WARRIOR will always ......... PREVAIL !!!

Drive front end first into the lake if skim ice so you don't break your transducer backing your boat in, toss a bag of salt/sand and shovel in your tow vehicle too. With the up and down winters I've been doing the open water winter boat more and more. Get a jump pack and make sure batteries are topped off as you are often the only boat on the water. Friends think I'm nuts but I love it too.

Great advice!  I do not winterise my boat, I change the gear oil, the minnkota charger stays plugged in all year!  Here in CT we often have open water situations during winter so I grew accustom to leaving the boat operational.  (I caught my pb pike in open water last year in Feb)

On the LG front, spot lock and livescope and no competition on the water for those schooled up lakers has lead to some really fun days and the only difference from ice fishing is its colder without an enclosure.

I was thinking of taking the boat out on the lake with my son next week, any tips for catching lakers? Are you trolling or jigging? Thanks.

First time I can remember that there was virtually no ice on Lake George in mid February.  I have been ice fishing there since early 1960s.

First time I can remember that there was virtually no ice on Lake George in mid February.  I have been ice fishing there since early 1960s.

A handful of years ago it was like this, it froze for 3 days in March and a few of us got out over the deep water on the third day.  The lakers were hungry and the next day the ice was gone.
