I'm new to iceshanty, this is my first post.  My cousin told me about the site and I have been reading many of the posts available to guests. It's a great site.  I've been mostly fishing on Lake George this year and am now hooked.  I caught my first ever lake trout. What an awesome experience. The perch fishing is beyond awesome on this lake.  I'm looking forward to my next outing on Lake George!

was on my way in today and came across 5 10inch holes in a line about a foot apart from each other. These were laying all over the ice.  >:( >:( ??? ??? ::) ::)   Caught 30 perch today.  Nice day out.

That explains things. Butts like those later get smoked by pumpkinseeds giving them tar build up.

I've cleaned a few seeds that looked like that over the last few years. Always clean the cutting board and blades immediately :o. Didn't head out there Andy...a couple buddies and I went for a ride on the wheelers and caught 3 limits of perch and I went 4 for 4 on lakers. 3 short and a 25". My buddy lost one 30" or a little bigger...bet he's gonna get rid of that 2 pound test now ;D. Still lots of slush once you get away from where the walkers fish. Buddy got stuck several times with his wheeler and we made good use of his chain  ;D

Yes I do think it's cancer for sure Jeff.

I used to swear by 3 lb test, then tungstens and the inline reels became a hot item. Now I run 6 lb and have no trouble catching perch, gills, lakers, eyes and even bait like ciscos or shiners. Pretty universal and I have more confidence in the line than I do the tiny hooks lol. I do think on an open face reel I would still use 3 lb though.

Brag time..

Only fish landed out of six or so marked in 7 hours.  I hooked two others but lost em.
My PB at 28" with no weight but pretty chubby

Has anyone fished out of vets in the bay this week ? Do the perch seem to be moving shallow yet ? Last weekend cleaned house out past the point of the sagamore island. Just trying to keep the freezer full !   Thanks in advance !

Well I limited today on perch. At least half are jumbos. They are moving into the shallows water. I also ended up getting 10 pumpkinseed's and 2 of them were Giants.

We really had to work to get the big perch tho. We cut holes and moved all day. It paid off

The perch is 13" for size reference.

Which end of the lake are you coming from and what do you want to catch?  In general though, parking is limited, especially on weekends.

I'm coming from Albany.  I'd like to catch lake trout and pike.     We might or might not have people with wheelers coming so I'm trying to get some options for walking and if we have wheelers.

Went out from Vets Thursday with my friend Dwight and tried fishing a little deeper in search of some fresh fish who have not had a steady diet of pimples dropped on their heads for the last 6 weeks!  The bite was slow as expected and conditions were downright miserable but we did end up catching some decent fish including a nice fat 29" that I got on 6lb test and a medium action jig rod. The fish fought me hard for 15 min and took me to the bottom in 138 FOW twice! Dwight got a nice one that almost ran out his entire spool of line on a Heritage Laker! That was not fun to wind back up in the wind! Good times!  :)
