No doubt in my mind about that Lance.

How long was Terry's in that pic?  Had to be over 30??

Sad part for me is my first fish of the year went 30 .....  and it may be the biggest of the season!

I had one that went 27 on Sunday that fought like crazy ......  way way harder than the 30 and i had the drag screwed down tight even.

I figured it was foul hooked but it was just a bruiser.

Is it friday yet?  :o

I've asked this question 4,345,134,678,149 times today. Give or take a few.
"As I grow older, I've come to suspect that I have got it backwards, and that life, at its best, is a metaphor for fishing and writing. Or perhaps neither side of any metaphor is finally dominant, the one inextricably tied to its contrasting likeness, no longer merely a point of comparison but yoked in a new existence to its other self."

I was soooooo close to heading up there this morning but i couldn't leave until 9 or so and that wouldn't put a lure in the water until 11 and it really seems they stop feeding by noon or 1 so i just decided to wait.

Maybe i will go try those tipup things for pike  :o

I havent fished that spot, since that day....

The 16lber is on my wall. The 14 went back in the lake, and the 11 came home for dinner.

If I was to catch a big one today, I would have a replica mount made...

Sooo ...  why would you not go back to a spot where you got 3 over 10 pounds in one day?

Exactly...

I know of a spot like that I saw some young men dragging three fish off one day, all three were the biggest I've seen come out of LG, all were fat 28" and up, I'm going there soon :P. Well over 100 fow.. the guys caught all three within several minutes of eachother at basiclly dark, they said the fish were on fire at that time of day, no electronics either.

Hey JJ,

The one with girl in the orange shirt was at least 13 lbs, over 33" and chunky; we released it and I don't hang fish to weigh them they are being let go, it damages their spine and can kill them, especially heavy fish. The top one was 15.5 lbs, 36", big kid holding it and he had it mounted.

41" and weighed 24 lbs at The Oudoorsman soon after being caught, June 2004. I really need to scan the pic again, only have a little one on my website; here it is enlarged but fuzzy.

That was a stocked fish, had a left ventral fin clip. I checked the old Angler Diary reports and from what I could tell if was stocked in 1987, the last year they stocked the South Basin(and lake, I think). So, 17 years of growing in LG. Pretty much all of the lakers caught now are wild fish.

Sooo ...  why would you not go back to a spot where you got 3 over 10 pounds in one day?

to be honest, I got those fish when I was 15...then that following year when I turned 16 I got my license and I started building my Turbo Camaro. I stopped fishing completely, open water and hard water for nearly 7 years....and It didnt help that when I turned 20, I bought a camaro SS and built it for drag racing. It wasnt until a few years ago when I got married, and bought a house that I sold my car and bought a truck and bass boat. Last year was the first year in a longggg time I consistently ice fished. The spot I got those 3 big ones from that day, Doesnt lock up safely every year. It did last year, but the 3 years before that, it was all open water.

now Im more into perch fishing, but I still wonder if those big girls roam through there.

Guy got one that size in Mass this year at quabbin.  24 pounds.  Fishing deadbait on the bottom...awesome fish indeed.

I heard from a reliable source (not an IS member but without a doubt the best fisherman I know) that a 19#er was caught last year through the ice. Crazy.  Nice fish guys btw. Love seeing the pics.

Can anybody give some ice thicknesses from any recent trips. Not much on R&C board lately. I might get the chance to go chase some LG lakers for the first time this year. Thanks!
