The fishing and ice has been great this year, there still is a lot more time left to fish. I was out today but it was an off day for us.

Slower today caught 2 25" and 22". Was a little shocked at a the short it ate my biggest Cisco right around 14". The big schools of bait had moved a bit once I found them they were thick as could be all the way from bottom to right under the ice. I was sight fishing smelt a foot under the ice was kinda fun. They had big Cisco's with them had a hard time getting them to bite though only caught 5.

Yeah I moved in towards shore and found the bigger clouds of bait and pulled 5 good ciscos today  caught 5 each of the last 3 days. And yeah she caught the biggest one 28" 7 lbs, it was the first flag and she had never caught one so she was up until she landed one. It was funny once she saw it in the hole she got so exited she tried to rip it out of the hole and snapped the leader I got wet to my elbows but I pulled it out.

struggled for 2 lakers yesterday all day. had multiple chasers the faster I reeled the faster them came but they still only followed it up 20 ft then stopped. really frustrating walked all over trying different places anywhere from 30-40 ft all the way to 120. tried big and small lures didn't seem to matter caught one on a buckshot other on a vibra grub and both shorts.

If i were going just for trout, I would start first thing on the edge of the perch beds, and then work deeper.   Around mid-morning i would start working my way back up shallow, the trout are strafing some of the perch beds pretty heavily in the afternoon.

Yeah I keep getting four or five fresh ones to use and they hammer them. The biggest one took a ten incher while I was feeding it down the hole it wasn't even half way down and it took it out of my hand.

Just a common area the perch hang out?

From my knowledge, it refers to an area, usually in 25-40 feet of water over weeds where perch can be found during the winter.  Commonly found in bays or mid lake humps.  So yes, a perch hang out ;D

7 laker day!  4 jigging for ciscos and perch all on a Hali!!! And 2 nice ones on a tip up with a Cisco then the last with a sucker.  Had three other fish on tip ups where I probably yanked the bait out of the fish's mouth and one cut the line could have been a northern as it didn't fight much and line was cut at a 45 degree angle (lost at hole)

hammered the perch again, but the bigger ones were hard to find. Got about 8 jumbo's early then the rest of the day would catch 10 small ones before another keeper. Action was steady all day tho. Big perch came from 24ft of water. All other's were 33'.

came home with 33 perch. Some are questionable keepers lol

Caught a smelt as well.
