Finally got out on the King this weekend.   Bite was tougher than usual, fish were getting an inordinate amount of fishing pressure.   Still managed 87 in three days.  Also, got this fattie pushing 10lbs.  Ice was 4.5"-6" where I was out on the main lake if you avoided the open water.

I went out with TC5 today out of Vet's park, I landed 9 Lakers all short, I lost 4 and I had 5 short hits. One that I lost snapped my line, 12 lb test, I lost a good fish and my lure. So I stopped at the Outdoorsman in Diamond Pt. and got 3 more. It was pretty cold out there, I had my shanty up started my heater, when I set it down the wind blew it out, I went to restart it but the igniter wouldn't work, so I did with out. I only had cold hands taking the fish off my lure. I only have 2 pics for the day, after the 2nd pic my camera was froze up.

I went out of vets this morning also but I was only jigging for perch and yes it was cold. Before I got out on the ice my truck temp read zero.

Nice fish BigRed!!I don't think we will catch you number wise but we did manage another 24 today. That's 40 in 2 days and we are going to try our luck again tomorrow. They seemed to be very active where we were today.Multiple fish would come up after the jig at the same time.Very cold without a shanty but worth the effort.

Don't trust what anyone tells you, check the regs. In this case they are right, but always check.

Where is a good place to go out there and catch perch? I went years ago as a kid with my family but no one can seem to remember exactly where we fished.

Pick any one of the bays these guys have mentioned and fish 30-40 fow. They're literally all over the place.  I've fished  around Harris and Sawmill bays and done well. Can't be afraid to cut a lot of holes, but once you find them. They won't be tough to put on the ice.

That little fish is a sculpin, I've found a few live ones inside of plastic bags that got caught on my downrigger weights and one alive inside a lakers mouth; see them in their stomachs quite often when I filet them.

I've had them cough up sculpin a few times, usually ice fishing. One day by Paulist Fathers we had a couple lakers spit out well over a dozen little ones. But we never saw one on the north basin though and most of our fish have been caught there.

Thanks for the tips! Just got started using my vexliar and really learning how to use it right so I'd like to go catch a mess of perch if I can :-)

You should have no issues then if you use the Vex. If you're not marking fish in 3 or 5 minutes... Move.
If you're marking fish and they're not hitting... Change.
