Shorelines are good you just have to pay attention to the pressure cracks out there.

The ice is sketchy for sure. Fishing could have been better too.

Headed out around 11:30 today and had one of my most enjoyable days ever on the ice with my 7 yr. old son.  Ice looked great where I was and the bite was smoking hot right till dark.

Hey swatchman if you don't mind me asking where abouts you were!? I'm heading out tomorrow afternoon by myself and I need a hot perch spot where the rain tomorrow won't affect the ice! Sad I have yet to get a laker this season. Just haven't found the spot. Doesn't help this is only my second season!

Looks like the temps will stay below the 32* mark on the weekend. Should help with the ice. :woot:

The lake should tighten up when the temps drop back down.

Billy, if you study this thread enough, these guys are telling you where the safe ice and the fish are.  When it comes to Perch, look for the guys in clumps sitting on 5 gallon pails or inside flipover shanties.  Most of the time if you are polite and strike up a conversation they will let you fish near them.  On LG, the regular Perch guys realize it is a public lake and they will not hassle you unless you're a total nuisance.

Andy, you must have thought you had a world record Perch!  Some of the last ones that came around before dark yesterday felt like that coming up.

Thank you swatch! I enjoy making friends on the ice! Were all out there to have a good time and most of the time everyone is awesome! I love ice fishing wish I had done it way sooner! I've been pulling them up at veterans and cotton point but a lot of them are dinks!

May be a stupid question but anyone go out today? I'm dying to go out but I don't want to waste a trip up if I can't even make it past the shoreline! I'm not worried about the ice that was already 6+ inches just the shoreline and pressure ridges.

I strongly suggest spudding your way every where you go on that lake right now.

I agree as well.   The season is still very early and there is now point of going swimming now.   Personally I'll be heading to the dead sea until the king tightens back up.

And not to claim holier than thou or some crap.
But... If you don't know the lake well. I would stay away from it.
All of the hazards out there are typical hazards for late March conditions. The guys that have fished that lake every weekend for the last 20 years know where exactly they are for the most part.
You would be taking a big risk fishing that lake anywhere right now. Even if you are a seasoned veteran to the lake.
I don't mean to scare anyone off. Just an added word of caution.

Well said.  I wouldn't call myself a veteran by any means but I know where the major pressure cracks are in the places I fish, always use a spud and wear a float suit and hand spikes and you won't find me anywhere out there right now.  I'm probably a little too cautious but if I can get through on two whacks with the spud I'll turn around and that was the case for me yesterday both near shore and a little farther out.  Stay dry everyone.

I agree, Jamie.  Well said indeed.  For those who don't know it, there is no hurry.  Ice cold weather is on the way and she'll be sown up tight in a couple days.  Also, this is still early....Jan. 23 is avg. fishing date according to the 'Old Timers'.
