Title: Dead bait?
Post by: tench on Feb 16, 2010, 11:35 AM
I was given a package of preserved emeralds for my birthday. They aren't that big, maybe 3-4 inches. Will salmon hit these on a tip up?

Emeralds are the best live bait next to smelt IMO. i wish we could still get them here in Vermont. i dont know how they would work as a dead bait

I've caught salmon on dead bait , but they weren't preserved just dead in the bucket or fishing a no live bait lake so we killed them before they go down the hole.  I don't see why preserved ones wouldn't work, they work during open water so why not.
