I'm hoping and praying today was not the end of the season, but with the forecast for the coming week, I fear it may be.
I closed the season with what has become my "standby" this year - - Burnett's Pond in Savoy.
I fished it from late morning until evening. Blue skies, a moderate breeze, temps hovering around freezing.
There was about 7" of skating rink quality ice. Other than two college age couples that went for a walk along the dam side of the pond for awhile, I had the place to myself for the whole day.
The fishing was about what one would expect for Burnett's. Lots of pickerel (anywhere from 10" to 19", with most of them in the 15" - 17" range) and a few perch (including two "keepers," with the biggest about 10.5").
Lunch was the same as yesterday's menu. (See my Plainfield Pond post).
I thought to bring my hockey skates, and managed to squeeze in a little skating during an afternoon lull in the fishing action.
On my drive home down the mountain, I saw a good sized doe off to the side of the road in my headlights.
All in all, a good way to finish the season.
