Fishing two species ? (Pike and landlocked Salmon)
« on: Dec 24, 2016, 09:25 AM »
Good morning folks,

Yesterday was my first day on the ice this season. I've set my tip-up with dead minnows in a row and waited for any moves. The first trap from the shore went down 2 times but no fish at the end. The third time the fish was leaving pretty fast with the line. I let him take some line as I do usually when I'm fishing landlocked but when I pulled the line I lost everything. I'm pretty sure it was a big pike.

Since I don't use any leader for landlocked because I'm afraid they will notice it is there a way I can catch either pike or salmon with the same set-up? I'm currently using 14lb test fireline as final end line and 30lb dacron line for backing.

The other idea I got is to use only worms for the few tip-up close to lake shore so pikes will not bite them like they do with minnows.

Any tips to help?

Thanks !

Sam

Ok guys I got my answer.

Tortue Nacrylan 30lb is the thing to use. This wire can resist pike teeth according to many fisherman.

I tried it on many tip-ups, now let's try them  ;)

I'll let you know if it works well.
