I agree with twodogs - too large a hole often makes it easier
to lose your fish since it gives them some space to move, but they can not turn in a smaller hole.

Twodoggs - I think you missed the boat on this one. In regards to the chip I think I stated my peace and yet you feel you need to egg me on. Why did you feel dinks was some type of bad reference? That how most ice fisherman refer to small fish. Just ice fishing lingo. And you're reference to being afraid of reaching for the fish....well I'll leave that one alone. Just the facts - bigger fish, bigger holes. Like a boy scout....preparation. Have you not heard of people having to use a spud bar to widen the hole? or others who have had to drill a hole next to the one they have a fish on to connect the both of them? No reason for the hostility.....this is a great site with great people. Now get out on the ice.

my 31/2 hp 10 jiffy will out drill any 8 incher if I want to abuse it, I like to be prepared for anything i hate losing big fish for any reason least of all hole size

Guess I'm not the only one who feels this way. Hey shmeltz? 10" will drill as fast as 8". Most guess I know use a 2hp on an 8"....I have a 3hp for a 10".
