Title: East Idaho 2018 Get Together [CANCELLED]
Post by: FG Steve on Jan 02, 2018, 10:46 AM
Creating a thread for the East Idaho get together, from this original thread:  https://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php?topic=348402.0 (https://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php?topic=348402.0)

No gathering due to warm Preston-area weather

Based on feedback from the most-interested persons.  I intend to try again next year.  Trout folks might like to try Blackfoot--sounds like conditions may be OK there.

I will modify this top post as needed to keep it current as we determine details and if things change.

Saturday, February 10
Twin Lakes (Franklin County)
Sunrise until you leave
Bring your own everything

Catch some trout and some bluegill and meet n' greet with some of your IS friends.

PF13 or IrishnID, maybe you guys could suggest a meeting spot.

The main boat launch would be a great place to start from. More than enough parking and the lake is accessible from anywhere along the north shore. If we get more snow and drifts driving to the south lake ramp gets shut down.

sounds good, Irish! i'll also be flying a jolly roger outside my shelter, so keep an eye out for that.

Weather forecast not looking good...

We could have a going away party for the ice at American Falls if we do it fast.

last report i heard from twin said they had 5 inches of ice with good edges, but man... it's warm. i'm not even sure if i'll be able to get out there this weekend.

i know parts of glendale have about 8 inches of ice, and sportsman's park at american falls had 9 inches this last saturday...

Preston is currently not forecast to get below freezing, from 2/2, on.  Through at least 2/7.  Plus three days with RAIN.

I suggest we watch the weather for now.  It may be that the weather has combined with the calendar conflicts of interested persons to do us in.  I know there is a definite preference for on-the-ice gathering (based on the fact that I tried to organize an off-the-ice get together in the past and it got shot down pretty well).

If the on-ice gathering is doomed for the year, then let's peg a January date for 2019 and stick with it.

Copy that. Keep me posted if anybody comes up. Glendale had 16" inches inba tape measure Saturday. And the edges were great.

Anybody know conditions?

I work thru Friday. But I would think if it was going to happen it would be on Glendale. It was the thickest ice around. Twin report I got was 3 1/2" on the North lake. Foster reservoir has open holes starting all over it.

I'm out of state until tomorrow.  With two more days of breezy and 50 deg. in Preston and yet another night without freezing, I'm not excited about getting on the ice anywhere.

...and these guys don't share our love for snot rockets/slimers/beautiful, yummy trout.

We could probably get on Blackfoot, too, though it is probably at least a little messy.

Thanks, Curt.

I'm out.  Let's do the lame thing and bag it until next year.  Jan 12 or 19?  And once the date is set if somebody can't come we will post pics of having fun without them.

Sounds good. Drove by Glendale this morning and there was a guy out there fishing, but the edges were anywhere from 8'-2' of open water. Didn't drive the north side though. Hope to see ya next year.
