Snow was deep Saturday, no chance of getting a wheeler out there then but it's supposed to be warm this week so you will have to see how much it knocks down the snow. I am not aware of any bad spots until you get  around the back side of scout where the channel is really narrow, there are two spots that are iffy there every year but they are off to the sides of the main channel. One is near a big rock and had a little open water near it a few weeks ago but I don't know how they are now.

I was out Saturday and Sunday ice fishing from Wally's.  Got the wheeler out both times... just hammer it!!  The snowmobiles put some decent trails down Saturday and the rain knocked the snow down quite a bit.  There was about 2 inches of slush under the snow in spot, hopefully we get some cold weather this week to put a nice solid crust on the lake!

went ut sunday and hammered the bass. I think we ended up with about 10-11 nice size bass and threw them back of course. Also managed 4 keeper walleyes and a 4 short walleyes. Also in the fold was a rock bass and a got dam mudpuppy. Them things are the ugliest "things" i have seen. All in all  out to deer island, and with a lil help from a a good fun day even though the weather was dull gray and dreary. As for the snow, we got the wheeler out but it was becuase we had a plowed path out to deer island (shouldn't affect any snowmobilers). Once off the path it was tough but the snow packed down good and we packed a path to the shanty so we can all get there and have a good time. Anyone that is way out in the middle i wish you all luck getting there. There wasn't a ton of slush but the snow was deep. Good luck to all this coming weekend. Obviously have a great time and be safe.

Vern, those mud puppies are something. Catching "bass" and mud puppies, I would be moving....lol I would also be putting up a toll booth on the plowed path. You will make more money than you WILL win...lmao...Good Luck and be Safe....h2l

Sugar time is coming fast. You see the weather starting next week....I just had a thought..."Mud Puppy Sugar House". You could ever put one on your label....

Did the same yesterday.   Not too worried about the amount of ice, just the shoreline when the lake rises.

Heading up to Sacandaga this weekend just looking for a ice report after this warmup. Wondering if you could get out from Wallys or broadalbin with an ATV after the warmup. Trying to figure out if we're gonna have to walk or not.

Only thing I can add to Snelly's report is watch the edges. I see the lake is starting to come up some, so edges may become an issue...h2l

Good luck out there.  Ice has been so-so and fridays snow cover will make it dangerous for guys blindly bringing machines out.  Walking should be fine just be weary by shore and known springs and flows.  In NY your'e allowed 7 lines any combination of tip ups and jig rods.

It would be great to see the Food and Fuel tournament have the pike category be catch and release mandatory.  Like many other tournaments have switched to, would prevent large pre-spawn pike from being killed just to weigh in.  Unless they are going on the wall, they don't make the best table fare, 20 plus years of bio accumulating heavy metals...

Is this a heavily attended tournament?

Yes, and LOTS of door prizes. They even give away a fishing boat, motor, trailer package from Alpin Haus. GREAT tourney!

Still snowing. Windy. About 10 inches of wet, heavy snow. Already turning to slush in the driveway...Be safe on the lake, it may be hard to see what the edges look like...h2l

Plan on heading out in the morning,  lake had 20 inches of ice last weekend so I'm sure it'll be fine for this weekend as well. Didn't have much luck last weekend,  the girlfriend caught her first two pike so she loves the lake now. Oh well, worth the 2 hour ride for ice.

I saw a total of 10 vehicles pulled out. 4 by hand, 6 by excavator / tow truck. All near Wally's.

I was #2 on the board all of Sat. with a tiny pike (only 29 & 1/4") until the boys came in for the roast pig dinner. Then the board loaded up with 44+" pike. I couldn't hear too good during the awards, I don't thing there were any in the 50's", smallest was 10" bigger than mine. Largest trout was 14.5". Other than that, I just couldn't hear. Since it was my first keeper pike on this lake & my first ever entered in the contest, I got a gift certificate. Lou is a great guy. Attendance was way down this year due to the poor ice.
