Mr Heater Little Buddy issue
« on: Jan 15, 2022, 07:11 PM »
Sooo I have a little buddy heater. Flame comes out strong, But goes out as soon as I take my finger off of the red button. Took it all apart, cleaned the gas tube with Iso Alchohol, Put it back together, worked once, but won't light again. Is this an issue with the thermolcouple?

make sure the thermocouple is hitting the pilot flame good enough thats telling the heater o provide gas to the ceramic or it could be bad
and check tilt switch

I can’t speak on the tip over switch, but I did have to replace the thermocouple on mine and it was doing exactly what you are talking about prior to the replace.

yep, this is the problem. My suggestion is definitely not to disconnect the safety tip over switch, it's there for a reason. If mine doesn't light or stay lit, I give it a few raps on the side and try again. usually works right away, or I give it a couple more raps. Always gets it started.

Best thing I ever did was get rid of the tip over switch.

Thermocouple for sure. Do not remove switch ! If the wind blows you shanty over while heater is running you will wish you had the switch. Can order on ebay for 8.00

Got one of these for this weekend because I still can't get my little buddy buddy to work, and the new thermocouple ain't coming in mail for a while. Lit this baby,  and damn its powerful! Don't know if there's an emergency shut off if it falls over. Are these 10,000 -15,000 heaters safe for a 2 person ice hut? Haha

I have a little Buddy doing the same thing. Pilot lights but goes out as soon as you release the button. I don't like to just throw parts at things that don't work so I did some testing.

Tested the circuit (with ohm meter), tip over and kill switch were good. Disconnected the thermocoupler from the gas valve. Heated the thermocupler and measured voltage at end that connects to the gas valve. Voltage came up to 15 milivolts so thermocoupler is working. Ohm tested the gas valve and it is dead shorted. Replacement valve $45 plus shipping new heater $75.

I found a 2 pack of coils for the gas control valve on Amazon for $10.00. Installed the new coil and the heater works great. This thing was always a PITA to light.
