Did they get you to trade your heroes for ghost? Hot ashes for trees? Warm air for a cold breeze? Wish it was here

I Should be out on small bodies of water in a week or so if it stays cold. My early season spots were ALMOST ready.  Then the weather turned on us.   I'm crossing every appendage I got, in hopes this cold spell stays longer than a few days.

I use to fish cranberry meadow early ice. Froze before everywhere else because it’s in a cold pocket on a mountain in Woodbury. I live too far away now to justify a trip there for perch. I’m very close to carmi these days and that’s typically where I go first ice now. Having fished it the last 3 winters I’ve learned where it’s safer and where to avoid  early on

Yeah, the meadow is a neat little spot. If I'm driving that far I usually just go to elmore  though, unless I'm after trout.   In high school, my buddies and I would rack up a lotta miles looking for perch.  These days I don't travel  much to fish unless I'm after larger predatory species.  Not that I'm a perch snob by any means. I'd  just rather clean 1 big fish vs 20+ smaller ones  ;D

Central Vermont has ice on some of the perch ponds, trout ponds are sketchy. I've been out on one. One end had 4-5 inches of
clear ice the other end of pond had open water now covered with a foot of slush. I fished a shoreline today an went from 5 to
3.25 inches and that was close enough in the dark. I'm done until if freezes and firms up.
