Midnight Bite
« on: Feb 14, 2019, 11:28 AM »
My brother and I fished public water in Knox County last night from 11-2:30.  He caught 94 crappie, and I managed to add another 64.  They ran small, but we had a blast!  I must say that I did not quite make it to work by 8 a.m. After a 45-minute drive home, followed by over an hour of cleaning fish...It was well worth burning half a day's vacation.

10" if ice.

We caught them on minnows and waxies.   I got tired of re-baiting my minnows, so I caught most of mine on the wax worms.  My brother stuck with the minnows on one of his (two) rods all night.  I will use that as my excuse for getting out-fished. ;)

Caught them about 20' down in 30 FOW.

I love fishing the night bite! The majority of my biggest crappie hauls have come after dark.  A couple times a season you just happen to be there when they turn on like they did last night.

Fished again last night from 5-9 PM.  There were plenty of people out there. Bite was kind of slow. I managed 42 in 4 hours.

11" of ice.

Sounds like typical Lake Storey in Galesburg to me.

harpenter and I went last night for about 5 hours and caught about 300 crappies.   that averaged about 8".   next year should be a good year.

It was a fun night for sure.  Fished near a dad and his son and they were struggling to find the bite.  Showed his kid a few things and he ended up pounding the Crappies for a couple hours.  It was fun to see the smile on his face.  They probably left with around 50 Crappies.
