Hopefully if they advertise next year, there will be a minimum payout guarantee.
$1500.00 top prize is not really worth the effort if you stay at the Casino for the weekend, Gas, Etc.

I ran into the derby info in Hooked magazine about a month prior to the tourny. Never came across to much more for the advertisement. The mag led me to the link but the Lake Winnipeg info seemed lacking! As HGG had mentioned, 1st year tourny, growing pains are expected and lets not forget about some of the previous derby's that failed and put a red flag up in peoples minds. Im one of the guilty ones that wanted to go but bailed. If it survived the first year and they make it an annual, I will definately be attending next year. Been regreting not going for the last 2 days now.

Your lucky the tourneys start later in the morning.  If they were first thing in the morning you would never make it.  Im very surprised Shimano didn't pay your entry into this one.....Or did you lose your sponsorship???

hopefully next year if they make rules that they follow them as well......but when u have organizer's like stu mckay telling u it's okay to cheat just don't get caught, it put's a real sour taste in the whole thing..
When and where did Stu say it was ok to cheat as long as you don't get caught?I don't recall seeing this comment here or on the other boards. Please be kind enough to clue me in on this one.

now i have a hard time believing that one!!!  if a guy wanted to cheat he could, no doubt, they cant keep an eye on everyone, but i really cant see him saying that to your partners face, how smart would that be for him, this tournament, if he wanted to have it again, or his business....the guys not stupid ::)

I was at the tournament and I thought it was run great...for a first year tourney! I talked to Stu and he said there would be some changes for next year. The biggest thing for me was lack of advertising which was one of the topics we touched on. As for the entrance fee a $125 isn't that much considering we had a great meal Saturday night at the rules meeting. Hell you used to pay $80 for LDB derby and there was 2-3000 people there. The tournament was fun and run great with only minor glitches which will be corrected for next year! The kids fishing seminar was fun and we couldn't of had nicer weather, my kids loved it. My youngest son pulled the only fish in of the day...a 1 1/2 lb jack...better than nothing! His dad also walked away with the tournaments largest walleye...just over 9 lbs.(applause here) Congrats to Stu and Holly for a job well done and a big thank you to all the volunteers who helped out. Can't wait till next year.

Nice fish Jay.....it was my pleasure to weigh your fish. It certainly dwarfed almost everything else our weigh station saw that day. Congrats to all the participants and to the top 10 teams that can represent Canada at the championships in Rhinelander.
