When I'm searching for perch up shallow I usually set up in a triangle, I put out 2 set lines with minnows 50-100 feet off to both sides and then I jig at the 3rd point of the triangle so I have view of the other lines. No fish in 15min or so and move few hundred yards(this is my Saginaw Bay strategy so lots of area to try and cover)
Funniest thing about ice fishing for me is when people who know nothing about ice activities try to warn me about the dangers of the ice...

I usually run mine in a straight-ish line out in front of me so I can easily see them while jigging. I don't like to put them too far away because we sometimes get pike, walleye and whitefish on them and I want to get to them quick.

I like a v shape to keep it tidy and visible. I think a tighter spread is better than spread out as well, more of a pod of baitfish look for them. This is for lake Ontario bays in water up to 15'

I use a tip down spread at night for crappie about a 20 foot circle with lantern in middle …and I’ve lost several poles when a big bass cruises through my buddy has these things that go on rod that is a type of release so if pull hard it releases string and leaves bail open

I like to spread mine out in a big circle around me.  It's how I set the perimeter of "my" spot.  Though I don't really fish any highly pressured areas, so it's pretty useless.  But it's still my spot.

Close ..regardless of pattern ...mostly in front of me so a quick tip up of my head will see them if sitting  on a bucket/chair or windbreak position of my flip . In a  closed shelter out 45 deg of the window view . I keep them close mostly to decoy fish into my area . Remember getting to the tip down at the 3/9 o'clock position  is best so setting the hook for best/easy release of fish . No gut hooked fish .I tend to use Mr crappie Tru Turn Aberdeen style hooks

I like to spread mine out in a line running away in a small arc - so I can view without looking thru one to see the other(s). That depends on what structure or depth I'm working, too...and how many guys we have in the group or in an area together.

I don't like being more than 30' away - so I'll set up in a center location, if possible. If I'm by myself - I'll do one on either side of me and jig in the center. Depends how many holes I have dotted and how hot each hole is - then all bets are sometimes off and I'm shifting to jig that hole and switching out.

Like some others have mentioned, I've have had a few close calls with pike and bass that have almost taken a rig under. Big fan of the Sullivan Tip Downs I run, and the reel/rod notch in their tip mechanism has saved my ass on more than one occasion.

Ill spread them in an arc, then concentrate them in an area that seems to be more productive.  I often drill a double hole and jig next to my tipup so my jigging may lure a fish in, but the bait gives them a choice - like a deadstick idea.

I love fishing tip Downs and on a good day you get great exercise. My favorite is a straight line as straight as a string in the same direction 5 to 10 steps apart on a weed line. Keeping them neat and uniform you can detect the light bites. I have caught some real elephants using them!! :)

I use tipups instead of tipdowns. Light mono leader with either a small treble hook or the chartreuse 1/16 oz. jighead. Ideal bait is live fatheads, big enough to get on the hook. When you but it by the cup, you get ther whole range of fathead sizes, some are really too small to get on a hook, so cull through the bait bucket and pick out the biggest ones, hopefully there are plenty at 2" in there.

I use what I believe some on here are calling a " BOX " pattern. I set 6 tipups, 2 straight lines of 3, and each tipup about 15 feet from the closest one in the same row, and the 2 rows are only 15 feet apart. Then I sit in my folding chair and have as my 7th line my rod really close to the tipups. I can get to any flag within 3 seconds.

As others have mentioned, having so many baited lines so close together can fool the perch into sensing they have found a baitball, and the perch hang around and keep biting all day once they find your spread.

Sounds like you have it dialed in Worrior. I also use #18 trembles and look for the biggest fat heads I can find! The elephants definitely like the bigger baits. As the temperature gets colder I switch to tipups. Set my sled just off my center rig for a quick hookset and fish my jigging rods.

I make my own, I bought and sold most of the commercially available tip downs and always went back to using my own. Maybe I use mine backwards, but idk why most seem to have the rod come down over the base.

Not sure what exactly my materials cost, but I'm sire it's less than the $30-40 the commercial ones cost and it doesn't take any more than a saw and drill to make em.
