Title: Old timers
Post by: Preacher_man on Jan 20, 2024, 04:48 PM
Hey Was just wondering if there are still any ol timers out there? I just realized its been 21 years now since Ive been posting on here my catches. Haven't been able to get out the last couple of years. Hoping to get out this year. Use to catch a lot of nice crappies after dark. I posted some pictures back in 07 and 08 under Preachermans Hardwater Season.

Joined 2002 . I think I'm like two or three from the top of the list. In fact, three of us were given a token from Scott a few years ago. This has always been a great site. One of the most informative and not a lot of drama. Indiana Lou

I first started ice fishing with my Dad and uncle on Presque Isle Bay. Then I never did any ice fishing till I moved out to Wyoming Cty. N.E.Pa. when I got appointed to the church in 1999, where I'm still at. Bowmans Creek Free Meth. Church. And now I'm coming up on my 73rd birthday. I'm hoping to get out on the ice tomorrow. I'll let you know how I made out. :)

2007 for myself, I think.  Hate to say it, but I kinda miss the drama from the good old days.  Now it's just drill sales posts and guys telling new folks to use the search function.

Well, I was born in 62, I can remember hunting and fishing with my dad in the late 60s. So I have been ice fishing for over 50 years. Still use schooley rods alot. And always wear my white mickey's. Yup, I do have a vexilar. Best investment ever. I guess I am a old timer. According to alot of guys out there, I am old timey too
But I catch enough for me. Sure seen a lot of changes through the years. Steve

Well I finally got out for a few hours. Didn't tear them up. Only got a few Gills but at least I got out. Had 5" ice where I was. The way the weather is looking this might be only the one time.

Been on here for about 19 years. Started ice fishing in the mid 50's. Born in '41! Sold the 4 wheeler about 5 years ago, the wife didn't like me going by myself anymore. Sold most of my gear about 3 years ago, kept one jigging rod and 5 tip-ups, just in case I get an invite...h2l

Been on IceShanty for 18 years. Retired and living lakeside year-round now. Right out front is great multi-species fishing, especially for walleye! Turning the big 'Seven-Oh' this summer. Started fishing as a kid for 'jackfish' (northern pike) on a different (shallow) prairie lake which was eventually stocked with walleye and yellow perch to become an awesome fishery as well.

I only been here for 14 years, but it's kind of crazy to think that's pert near half my lifetime! Always a been a fun board to both lurk and interact.

Like anything else in life, it's interestin to see the change in course around here. It's been noticeable that some of these threads have turned into the same trash as the BookFace groups and a lot of the new Shanty members were cut from that nasty FB cloth. Makes me really feel like the Old Timer.

Tight lines to y'all!

'bout 50 on ice, 20 on shanty.
I started out with a red schoolie,  a spud bar, a salad spoon and a sparkplug soldered
to an alligator clip to determine depth. My bobber was made from some kind of black
foam with red paint on the top.  Everything went into a 5 gal bucket...

fish on,

rivereddy

Have lost too many Good Ice partners over the years... Tight lines
I live on a lake but don't like to play in my back yard...
never fish alone...
Meat Fisherman...
Give my catches to partners since my wife is allergic to fin fish... this makes me popular for some reason...
No electronics...
No more tourneys... $ is not my motivation...

Started following a uncle in 1948 at 7 years old, times and equipment have had a big change. Still getting out every winter as soon as safe ice is on.Not as daring as years past  :) Hope to stay with ice fishing as long as I am able, wife worries if I go alone, so usually have a partner . Don't remember my join date
