So you can drill two holes and if the fishing isn't good you can move and drill two new holes?

We will be plowing a road access from the main road on the way to lungs beach through the field and onto the lake. We will have a similar setup as last year. A large fishing area that will extend from the access point going east in line with the shore. There is a large ice heave further east and we will likely not go past that. Weather depending though of course to see how it may change in the next 3 weeks. The main awards area will be setup on shore as 500+ people and trucks are not safe on the ice. We'll have more info after the Jan 11 meeting to share more of a plan.

safe to say that after this morning's -35 without wind chill temp and the next couple weeks forecast you'll be looking at 30" of ice come derby time.
TEAM Saskatchewan: Yes, we have ice in December!.

I have a question about the # of holes allowed - last year few years I have been to this derby and i drilled about 30 holes in and around my shack right off the bat, and was hole hoping the entire derby (but only using max of 2 holes at a time) with the understanding that if someone wanted to they could use some my holes as well as long as I wasn't in them at the time.  From my understanding that was allowed, but re-reading the rules (mainly "Drill your own holes, paid entrants are permitted 2 holes no more than 10 meters apart.") now i am not completely sure. Can anyone confirm/clarify? Thanks

We also drill lots of holes. In my head it breaks down to the 2 holes you are fishing cannot be more than 10 meters apart but can have as many drilled as you want.

Can't make the map post properly. Type swift current as your starting point and lake Lenore lungs as your end point into a map app. I got around 440km drive for you.

How did the Derby go yesterday? What was the winning fish? How many guys had too many adult beverages and had a little nap on the ice?

Derby was good lots of people  I was told over 100 fish caught and 599 registered contestants  No idea what biggest fish was or weighed but I do know 50/50 was over $5000 and won by someone from Warmen

Anybody know why only pike and walleye counted in the smallest fish category? Are perch not a native species of the lake? I just feel like smallest fish should be smallest fish. This is the first derby i've fished in with these rules

top 3 fish were all pike

top fish was a 6.something pound pike.

if i remember correctly it was 88 walleye 12 pike and 4 perch or something like that. total was 104 fish.

top walleye was 3.3 (my buddy caught a 2.6)

biggest perch was 1.6 lbs.

smallest fish was .5 lbs.

I did not relize smallest fish had to be walleye/pike, i thought perch qualified for that as well?

Unfortunately not. I caught a .24 lb perch. But it was not counted

I have been away but here are the official results.

1st - $6342.50 - 6.57 lb pike
2nd - $3171.25 - 5.34 lb pike
3rd - $1902.75 - 4.58 lb pike
Smallest - $1268.50 - .51 lb walleye
Largest walleye - 3.30 lbs $500
Perch 1.66 lbs $250

50/50 $5155.50

104 fish caught, pretty spread out evenly through the area.

The rules clearly states that smallest fish is either pike or a walleye. This is the way it's been for all of our derby's. There was some confusion at the weigh station about that for which we do apologize.

We'd like to thank everyone who attended for all the support. Also we'd like to thank all of our volunteers and sponsors. It would be very difficult without them!

Each year we are learning and trying to improve. We are open to any suggestions or comments. Please feel free to contact me via PM or at [email protected].

I second that. This was my fourth year at it. I have gone in a handful of others but this one keeps me coming back. Now if only the fish numbers  caught were only as high as the first two years.  When I first came half the people in it and twice the fish were caught. Lake gets hammered in summer from what I hear.   Anyways keep up the good work.
