getting the first piece to the launch site

once both are there.....hook em up and go!!

little trouble on the way out  ::)

first one set and ready for the 2nd half

getting the 2nd half positioned to drop the floor

floors down, ready to open the walls and roof....

now just put the screws to it, block it all up level and she's ready to fish.....

the whole thing is 8' x 12", but actually can be used as two individual 4' x 8' shacks that each have their own door, windows, shelves and benches.

I was in it Sunday @ -20 F . I run a single MR Heater and I wish that I had two (one on each side of the tub). Then the sun came up and it was very nice.
I've had mine for four years and no complaints.

Here ya go, my first post here!  This is a portable I built.  The cover I bought off fleabay for 40 buck, the rest I had in the garage.  Kind of heavy and does not go over snow well.  I have an idea for making skis out of conduit that raise and lower so it can be off the ground when pulling and then lowered for fishing.

I was told it was a viking canvas, but I believe its the same as shappel.  Its the old 3 man that fits 2 just right!  I am thinking about taking the skis off and building a seprate sled.  I need something that moves well so I can drag more crap out on the ice with me!  did you notice my upside down ski pole table?

That's one of the best ideas I have seen for a table and best uses I've seen for a ski pole, let alone using it for a table stand. You should patent that one and make a killing ;D

Thanks for the compliment!  That table holds a lot of crap when I'm in my shack.  I am kind of struggling with a better idea for the skis.  Anyone ever see a way to have skis that pop up into place for towing, allowing the shack to be a foot or so up (for pulling through snow) and then when ready to setup the shack they fold down or out of the way so the shack ice holes are closers to the ice?  My shack right now pushes snow if it is more than 3 or 4 inches.

Every year I try to do something different to it, usually just minor improvements.  Last year was the table, this year I hope to solve the ski problem.  I would also like to dress it up a little this year.  Maybe an iron on IceShanty.com logo with my screen name.  We do this on another board I belong to, that way if you are out on the ice and another member is out you who your buds are.

Something like that, but if I fold them under the shanty then they would be in the way of the ice holes.  I'm trying to work out something that raises and lowers inline with the skis.  Some 1/2 inch conduit and hinges.  Problem is getting it to stay in the "up" position.  This is what I like about making my own stuff, it's fun working out the details.

what if you put them on the side or maybe a set up like a quick dismount when you get there and set it to the side

I got a Cabelas "build your own floor" model for Christmas a few years back. The floor design is similiar to that of the one you built, Mosely. The thing is huge, 5 by 5 and you can stand up in it, but with the weight of the plywood floor and by the time I added my own supports (to last longer then the Cabela directions had in mind!) it is a little heavy across the snow. I bought two kiddie sleds and built a 2"X4" box across them so the shanty would fit snug over the sleds. It's the kind of shanty to tow with a snowmobile or to drag when there is no snow on the ice. Not bad for the price though. One regret of the floor is that I wish I would have put spearing sized holes in it and not round 10" holes. I could change it I guess.

shallow unistrut and (4)  3/4 " clamps.  Make 2 "ski's" out of 3/4" conduit the over all length or width of house including unistrut on both ends.  clamps will hold ski's in place to unistrut attached to shanty.  take ski's off when arrival at destination.   ;)

RealityCheck, I can't quite picture that.  Have you done that before?  Happen to have a pic?  I was thinking of using some u-shaped conduit that would fold out of the way, but i just can't seem to figure it out yet.

Swampbuckster, I weighed my shanty last night, it's 89 pounds, shanty only!!!  I have zero problem on ice, but get about 6 inches and we're talkin heart attack trying to pull it out.  My big mistake was making it out of 3/4" plywood, wish I had gone with 1/2".  I think I may start taking it apart and cutting down some of the wood I used.  Instead of using pieces that span the length of the shanty I will turn them into corner blocks.   The thing is built like a brick crap house.

sorry I have no pics.  I know it will work.....hell I will come bend the U shaped peices of conduit for ya.   :D  unistrut is a metal channels that is used to anchor conduit to the wall or on a rack.  It is usually painted green...but you can get it unpainted also.  They make a special clamp to hold the conduit to the unistrut.  you can find all the parts I am talking about at a electrical supply house.   ;D ;D

Unistrut - is it like a u-shaped channel that you could use to run several vertically (or horizontally) mounted counduit runs?  I think I know what you are talking about, see it in commercial applications.  I will look into that, good idea!  Do you think 1/2" conduit would be ok?  I only have a 1/2" conduit bender.
