Nice, thanks for the reply. I was thinking 8x18 or 20 depending on the trailer I find.

One more - did the skids remain open at the top or was there a top to them before the floor? Also, how did you attach your floor framing to the permanent skids?

Have to ping you if we make a trip that way this season (we've got a Denali highway trip in march, but that's rising and hopefully caribou...no fishing plans made yet!)

With 20' skis you can get away with one splice on the UHMW, any longer and you add another splice.  I always extend the skis past the shack on front and back so I can hook up the hitch.  I left the skis open as in the pictures when they were on the trailer.  I used 6'' or 8'' timber locks to tie it together and plate nailers along the outside edge.
