Wyo Ice, are you building a tip down?
Yes I am.
I have the frame and most of the materials....
The problem is we are still ice fishing and then the there's the drift boat problem. (I have had it out on the river twice last week)...
I need to quit playing and get going on the Beeler shack...

Bring on the shack porn!!!!  ;D

I will post as I go   ;)

So are there any actual plans to buy to build a house like this? I seen one similar years ago on youtube, but i believe the floor was hinged or something like that. he was able to haul his 4 wheeler in it i remember that

I have not seen any plans for this kind of shack. Like I said in the beginning of my build, I was winging it through out the complete build.

Hey Beeler. Im in the planning, searching for a trailer, can I afford this right now phase. If you were to build another tip down, what would you do different? Thanks for the Tip Down idea. Bull

Photo Bucket.com deleted all my photos on this web site. They are charging $400.00 a year to host picture so I can post pictures. No warning just deleted all my pictures from this site. Thanks PHOTO BUCKET.COM for screwing me over.
I'm starting to repost all the pictures, but it will take time.

Oh wow, that is perfect indeed. Only thing I would suggest is that you silicone the edges if possible. This will prevent any water from entering and freezing. But awesome thinking Beeler, good call.  ;)

Hey Everyone, PHOTO BUCKET which I hosted my pictures of my tip down build is missing some pictures and they have ad pop-ups all the time as I'm on the site.
So, I'm going to post some of the pictures on this page.

Hey Everyone, I reposted most of the pictures, but I also made a new video about the shanty.
You can look at the video on Youtube, type in "tip down ice shanty" or click on this

How do you make sure you don't rip the trailer right off of the wall? and make sure that it is all well supported?

Hey  Beeler,  I'm taking my "Beeler Inspired shack" to the lake Thursday. Staying the night in it as well.
I'll take photos and try to do a video with my gopro and get it uploaded.
I like your second video on your shack.

Wondering how long the trailer was for this build. I have a trailer I may be trying something similar with but the total length is 17.5’. It seems very long. I can’t imagine the tongue of the trailer sticking 17’ in the air. Maybe I’m wrong. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

I would think it would be difficult to build a tip down shanty on a standard trailer over 8’ maybe 10 but I think that would be pushing it. With a boat trailer maybe 12’

Beeler this is Awesome!

The first Tip Down I built, the tongue was 7 feet from the tip of the roof. This shanty I'm building now will have about 4 feet between the roof and the front of the tongue. I took a measurement off my boat and trailer and it was about 4 feet. I'm hoping this is enough space so when I'm backing up the shanty I have enough room that I don't jackknife my truck into the shanty and damage the truck or shanty.

So if I built the wall against the trailer 8’ tall I’d still have 10’ sticking above. Would that help with leverage or be too much added weight to lift it up? I can slide the axel more towards the front if needed. It’s just so hard to guess until the whole shack is built on it and I try it. I just don’t want to waste a bunch of time and effort for something that won’t work. Thanks for the replies and any more info.

If the tongue is 10 feet from the peak of the roof to the front of the tongue, that's a over kill. My 7 foot tongue on my first tip down shanty was long, that's why I shorten it to 4 feet. With the weight of the floor on back of the trailer it makes it easy to tilt the shanty. Why are you going with a 8 foot ceiling? What size shanty are you planning on building?

Well I thought about doing an 8’ wall and a 6’ wall. 8’ against the trailer frame. That way the roof slants back when towing and the 6’ side will have the holes to fish out of so won’t need the height. Possibly 7’ and 6’ would work too. I plan on using 2x2s for the walls and 2x4 for the floor. Hoping the extra floor weight will help stand it up.

So i went ahead and built my shanty on the trailer i had available. I did end up using 2x2's for the walls and 2x4's for the floor. Its 1/2" OSB all around and plexi glass for the windows. 1" foam covers the interior and my little buddy heater has it toasty inside within 10 mins. Almost too toasty. I want to thank everyone that offered suggestions and ideas. i did end up shortening the tongue of the trailer as much as i could. It takes 2 guys to tip it up/down but im very pleased with how it turned out. I am open to more ideas if anyone sees something that i missed. I do plan on making a box for my optima battery to run usb outlets, 12v outlets, and a mounted car radio with speakers. I could also add posts out of the side of the box for my flasher if i need to. Ill try to take some more pics of the interior once i get the radio mounted and add anything else i think of. Maybe some led rope lights to hook up to the battery power pack. Suggestions on that are also welcomed. I don't want it to be too bright inside but just enough light for when im packing up for the night or getting ready to fish before sun up. Thanks again.

Beeler, How do you make the wall that is connected to the trailer for instance strong enough?? I feel this puts a lot of stress on the wall alone and would have to be bulked up better?? Also how do you attach it to the trailer itself?

Thanks!

I glued and screwed 2x4's across all the studs on the inside of the shanty, then lined up the 2x4's with the cross members on the trailer and ran bolted. Also, bolted the 2x4 floor to the trailer. The blue shanty is Tip Down Shanty II and the other one is my first Tip Down.
