This is the second Shappell I have owned and quality has never been an issue. The problem I had with my 3000 DX was self-inflicted both times.
once it was a wind issue and the second time just tore it down too fast. As far as corners go and pole attachment I can see your concern with no
corner braces. I have just never had an issue with it.
Greg

i am just surprized the tubes the seat sits on looks cheap too it like there trying to cut to many corners and selling cheap stuff. of couse being in buissness is not giving stuff away either you got to make money some ware.   this maybe why they went back to the drawling board on the fx series seats?

I agree with you there because other manufacturers have different set ups.

The only thing that could be better than seeing all these great mods and shacks would be seeing them on the ice! ;D

I don't see a problem with the seat rails as both my rover and my original gentz have the same setup and the gentz has seen better than 20 years worth of abuse and there is zero evidence of any problems.

I was on a bus and just happened to be sitting on a news paper. This guy came up and asked. "Are you reading that ?"
I said  yes, stood up, turned the page and sat back down.

I have no problem with the quality or the materials. What I am on the fence about is the new seat if I can justify the extra weight for the comfort or if I need to go back to the stadium seat. I could not believe how much heavier that made it. The new seat is pretty sweet though.

Hey Greg, is the rover 1 wide enough for you? That's really the only concern I have with this shelter..

I am 5'8" and about 210. I heard other posts about 2 and 3 holes. Two could see three I say wow. - am very happy with the room I only cut 1 hole. Where I am super careful is when I have heater going. The main reason I went with the shappell is their quality and weight. 43 lbs! Look at the specs compared to other 1 mans. Good luck man!

Thanks for the info man! yea I'm about 5'9" and about 160 so this sounds like it would be plenty of room!! Do you mind if I ask what heater you use? and do you put it on the ice or in the sled behind you?  thanks for help!!

I have the buddy heater and thought it would take up too much room so i bought the little buddy and it made a big difference in room. I do not usually have to heat my Rover. Hope this helps.

Gonna revamp how seat is mounted to conduit, twice this year the strap came off. These are a one hole strap and I am gonna use a 2 hole strap and see if that helps. Part of my problem is putting a boat seat in it cause it is more weight sliding around.

Greg:
Just a thought to keep your tackle box in place, can you put a bit of a bend in one of the bars or a small block fastened to the bottom of the shelf, toward the back of the shelf.  That way there would be some resistance when pushed all of the way in.

Had to remove boat seat and reinstall stadium chair. It was comfy but weighed too much. This year 2 weeks ago I had problems with the clips that allow the bench to slide back and forth kept coming loose until I went to set the hook and landed in the tub. Maybe it's trying to say lose some weight or come up with something more solid. My change was to add 1/2" conduit half straps or whatever you sparkys call em. seems to be the fix for now. On the other side of things I ordered another 1 man as a backup and for my kid or friends I take out. Hope everyone is having a great season! Tight lines fellas! ;D

I got the chair from Sportsmans Guide for $8 or $9  it measures 11 1/2" X 11 1/2" base and the backrest is about 15" high. Hope this helps,
I tried looking on their web site and couldn't find it or I would have copied the link.

Been following your mods and they look nice

Do you know who much your plastic seat weighs, found this one that looks like it would be comfortably but it weighs 7.5 lbs., you think that would add to much weight

I guess it all depend on which unit you have and how critical you are with the extra weight. I personally don't think it would be a big deal but that's just me. Looks like a really nice chair. I went with the one i did because of cost and small size. Hope this helps good luck!
