Making a fish trap voyager!
« on: Aug 23, 2009, 09:53 AM »
I just ordered a new overstock, closeout priced Voyager tarp from clam for $75.00. I figure I can make the rest of the setup myself and save a ton over buying the whole shanty. Heck if I have $250 in it when I am done I'll be surprised. Now I have to sit back and wait on the UPS man. This should be a fun project. If any of you have interior pics as far as the poles go send me a pic please. I did print the scematic out of the on line manual so that will help some.

A pic of th Side bracket and rough measurement to each hole would be awsome. Thank!

If you need to get on the phone with me, just send me a PM. I would be happy to help.

The owner of Appledoorn's resort on Mille Lacs Lake had a nifty setup when he showed us around at last years MN GTG. He had a flipover tent built onto a wooden sleigh with steel skis. The front of it was a bench to sit on with the tent built around it, and he back was a box with all of his gear. It was a SLICK setup. This type of deal may be right up your alley. He had to pull it with a snowmobile because of its weight, but it was slick as snot for sure.

Well I got the tent in yesterday And mocked it up in the garage today to get some measurements. As I stood there looking at it I was contemplating the question, Keep it light or go all out? Well I decided I'm going to go all out.So I started on the sled today. 1 1/4 EMT skis to start.

Today I got some paint on the skis. Then I cut out the base for my box. After that I laid out lines for each compartment. Thinking about the two open compartments I pulled out some Left over laminate flooring for those. Others will have linoleum or carpet.

I got a little work done today. Made the lids and carpeted them. Made a very convenient table. When I flip the lid all the way open it becomes a table. I need to pick up some hinges for the legs as they will atomatically swing into place when the lid is open.

No. I am accually going to go pick up the snowmobile I purchased on Sunday. A 1976 Arctic Cat Cheetah 340. But on a glare ice lake I might if the walk isn't too far. I hate pulling a shanty out and getting al sweaty before relaxing to fish. Plus I like to move and find the fish.

I installed some LED's in the compartments today and a couple 12V outlets. I need to hit the stores for a few building supplies now.

Mud,

If the snowmobile breaks down you could put a snow tire on the Captain America bike to tow it. LOL

ya know mud not to hamper your plans but i see one flaw in your plan the tarp isn't going to cover the bottom of the sled to the ski and your going to have a major breeze problem coming from under the sled. I was just woundering if you were going to put a peice of tarp there or a fold down ply wood or how you were going to fix that. Just a thought
thats the biggest smelt i've ever seen

Im' doing Fold down plywood for that area. At least thats been the plan since the start. Things could change by the time I get to adding that.

Got a little work done on it today. Here is how I am weatherproffing the outside if it. I used out door carpet adhesive and the best tark you can buy at menards. I ran out of adhesive so I didn't get the ends done yet. I also added LED's and an outlet and the last pic is of the LED's I installed a couple weeks ago in one of the compartments. I am thinking about putting these on a door switch so they come on when it is opened. This way also they won't be left on by accident.

Ciggy lighter is a nice touch. I plan on attaching one to my snowmobile for GPS, cell phone, and other things that go dead on the ice.

Well this morning I stopped by the scrap yard and picked up a chunk of aluminum to make my side plates.

Once these were mounted I attacked the tent and started fitting the poles I had made last weekend.

She's getting there.

Very impressive! Well done. You'll enjoy it much more knowing you built it your self.
