I don’t want to divert the topic to a gear discussion....but do any of you use a pop up type shelter around here? I don’t usually have the need for one in north Idaho but I’ve been thinking about it a bit.  Especially if I try somewhere a bit colder/windier like Montana.  If you do use one is it insulated or do you find that the uninsulated variety works fine?
dude I travel to fish  often.  Uninsulated is ok. Insulated is much better.

Unless it is brutally cold a gas lantern or a small propane hotplate will usually heat a small shelter. If not a bigger propane radiant heater will heat up one even as big as mine (8 man)

Went up to Bonners yesterday for work. Checked out Twin on the way back. Still ice there but I heard a couple guys fell through last week. Not sure of the validity of it though. Saw ice on Cocolala but didn't check it out. Ive pretty much gave up on ice this year so Im heading to Orofino this weekend for some steelhead even with the crappy regs.

I was also trying to fish Monday. Was thinking blue is the best bet.

Did you go to Blue on Monday?  I'm sure the edges are gone now?

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to make it out, had to get a few things in order for work.

Sad year for ice fishing in north Idaho for sure.  Its been a good example of why you need to go when you get a chance.  Even if we get a cold snap its going to be iffy.  Be careful out there.

Bummer Guys. I was thinking of coming up that way to hit some of the lakes but, NO ICE, sucks. We got a few places down south here that have been keeping their ice. If you are jonesing for the hardwater best come on down this way, or head way North. Sorry you have no Ice, I really wish you did.

There's ice in Montana around Missoula and up in the flathead you guys could get on and get some fishing in. Looks like it's been a tough year across the country for ice.

Any Kokanee lakes  in Montana?

There is Georgetown Lake in Deer Lodge County down by Anaconda.

Here is a link to western Montana ice fishing reports, lakes run from the West Glacier area to the Flathead and Whitefish area.

Lake Mary Ronan is probably the closest lake that has kokes in it. Fishing is done at night but you can fish for perch during the day. It used to be really good...haven't been in several years (3-5).

I have fished those lakes that people only fish at night for kokanee but I have fished these lakes during the day and one, in particular, I've slain them at all hours of the day. And visa versa, Spirit Lake where I fished for 35 years I fished at daybreak on the ice and from an anchored boat and then when I was working I would go after work and fish at night through the ice. So you can do very well if you know where they are.

I have been researching this Montana Kokanee thing and I think I have found the closest lake time-wise to us. Beaver Lake over by Thompson Falls.

Checked a few lakes out this morning.   Granite is in good  shape.   Couple layers but top layer almost frozen solid to walk on.    At least 3 inches clear ice plus 4 inches snow pack.

I fished Seely for Pike last weekend and caught Pike and perch. Single digit temps at nite the past few days so ice should be good this week.

Anyone that fishes N Idaho feel free to reach out to me if they want some company ice fishing.Just retired have plenty of time to fish now!

AVONDALE maybe 20% open water with only new ice on the rest

This morning it was 0 at the Priest Lake weather station and 3 at the Hoo Doo lake station.  That had to have helped some of the lakes in the area.
