are these "landlock" salmon also called Kokanee?

Kokanee are landlocked sockeye  salmon.  Typically stocked in reservoirs west of the continental divide as laker forage and human table fare.  LL salmon around here are of the Atlantic variety.

Hunter I’m sure he caught those from open water. Otsego doesn’t freeze this early

It has to be very close ..... parts of Lake George are literally icing over as you watch the camera.

It will be interesting to see if Otsego is still way off or if the fishery has rebounded.

I'm anxious to try my hand on her in the winter. Fished it a bit in the summer, and the fishery is A-OK  ;)

The lake is slowly coming back into form as the forage base rebuilds.  The SUNY kids found a bunch of fat and sassy whitefish in their surveys a couple weeks ago.  Great sign.

I know that smelt and even cisco i think are starting to make a comeback.   Next time I talk to them, i will find out whats going on with the alewives lately.

I've only been been there once. Is there a hot spot or a hot time of year?

Come on otsego lock up!  I haven't been in 2 seasons because the ice conditions really weren't good by what i was hearing.  Would love to get back on it this year.

ol crawdad:  The alewives are gone almost completely.   The pelagic fishery is nothing like it once was, but there are still trout present in numbers.

What's the best way to get on the ice near the boat launch since the docks have bubblers going.

Spent my entire life hardwater fishing the "The Dead Sea" aka the Great Sacandaga Lake, but looking forward to making a trip out to Otsego. Might as well put my time in now so I can be better prepared when things rebound over the next few years.  ;D

The lakers look much better than they have in recent years. I caught 3 shorts today but the body thickness was the same as 25 or 26 inchers last time I caught them.

How many years does it take for them to reach 23" or upwards? Groups with electronics knocking off 30 or more per day must be figured in www. ::)
