Title: Waterproofing the roof of an older Clam Scout
Post by: davef2 on Jan 17, 2021, 08:38 PM
I have an older Clam Scout that is about perfect for the way I fish but noticed yesterday melting snow was coming thru the rood very easily.  Is there any product other than Scotchgard that anyone has used.  I think I would prefer to brush a product on rather than use a spray can but am open to any suggestions.  Thank you.    Dave

The best option that I’ve found is a product called NeverWet by Rustoleum. It’s a product made for fabric and doesn’t discolor or stain. It really works well.

I spray the top of my hubs and flipovers with camp dry every few years.

I knew a old guy that used to spray his carhartts with Thompson water seal.

Mix clear silicone with enough mineral spirits so it is almost as thin as water, then brush it on all your seams. If in doubt, a second coat will fill the seams and prevent any leaks. I find it lasts longer than the tent waterproofing spray. Makes the seams look a little shiny, but it works really well.
