Crappie Fishing
« on: Dec 10, 2011, 08:46 AM »
Does anyone know where there are Crappie in the Northern Part of VT. My son is 3 and really hoping to get him into Crappie etc this year. He had fun with Perch but Crappie can be a blast too.

Thats what I figured... I don't have a boat so my exploration is pretty limited. I try new lakes in the winter but have yet to see a crappie up here. I was fairly keyed into them in NH before I moved.

I haven't heard of any lakes in the NEK with Crappie, the closet thing to you is going to be the Conn river and Moore Dam that hold Crappie.  I have hunches that there are some bodies of water up there that hold them, Magog has to have them.

I don't think Magog does have crappie...but it does have really good perch and  is one of the few really good smelt fisheries left in the state...

South bay would hold crappies, I have heard of guys getting some there, but there isn't anyone who is trying to catch them.  They aren't the type of fish you catch on accident.  It wouldn't surprise me if The two Salem lakes help some crappie as well.  I've been searching the state for 4 years now and the best i can do is champlain and the river.

Are crappie in the same water structure as bluegill? I can find the perch, but this crappie thing is still a mystery to me. A few years ago a buddy and I caught a few in this one spot at dusk, but never caught another one. Is it jig size or presentation that makes the difference? I don't know that's why I am asking. Yes the crappie we caught were on a conn river setback.  VT snotrocket.

CT River way down here is loaded, I would think you'd have them too if you can find areas without current...

as are you hinkydo.

Springfield holds good fishing as do most of the setbacks south of that.  As soon as there is 4 inches i'll be there!

Ever fish Moore Dam through the ice? I love it there for perch.

those lists are so out of date, ask Dylan, we have caught them places they "aren't".  f&w didn't believe me when I told them I was getting them in the river near bradford.

Yeah they're all over. Especially in lakes surrounding the ones on that list! snotrocket its trial and error. Some get plowed. I find myself walking quite a bit. No one really fishes it

So is the best place to go the littleton end near the dam? Does the water fluctuate much?
