Bass, for a long time I used a double surgon knot to form a loop knot.  Now I have started using the no knot snap and really like the action it gives the little ice jigs.

It is a small stainless spring clip that attaches to the line.  Has a very small loop formed that you can snap the hook eyes into.  Gives the baits great action and is easy to change baits when looking for that "magic lure".  When using with horizontal baits it may not set right, so check them out before hand.  You still need to check your line for wear and re-tie when needed.  I like to use the snaps made for fly fishing.  I will try to find a reference on the web and post it.

Bass, I couldn't find the no knot site.

Please see ttp://www.cabelas.com/information/Fishing/No-KnotFastSnaps.html for a good picture of the snaps.  I use the smallest size.  When I started I thought they might turn the fish off but it doesn't seem to make a difference.  I always run a 3 mm red and green bead on the line before I tie any ice lure on and the snap is hidden, some what, by these.

Bass, a tip for these is to put them on a split ring or lure to help tie them to the main line.  They are small and hard to get a grip on.  Something to hold onto makes it easier to tighten down the knot.

I have thought about using those spring clips but havent got around to it. I was thinking about adding a swivel then a piece of leader with the spring clip so as too prevent my line from twisting. I have a terrible time with twisting if I do not use a swivel.Spring clips are small and seem to be easy to switch lures with.

wvboy, I had a problem with twisting line also.  Then I started to to make sure the bait was on the hook with a straight profile.  Keeping everything in line makes a difference.  The bait will swim down straight and come up the same way.  It takes a little time to keep it all staight but less than the time spent untwisting the line.

I just use a regular old overhand knot, usually about four of them. I never have a breakoff except if I horse big lakers or rainbows too hard on light line, which is to be expected with any knot.
