St. Croix spring bobbers installed
« on: Jan 15, 2013, 03:04 AM »
Ok guys, I know there are alot of posts about this spring bobber being installed on rods, but heres another! I'll keep mine simple since there are so many. Gotta say thanks to Dakota for supplying me the guide and grommet! Apparently he makes these himself. Not an actual rod guide like used on the legends, but his homemade version. They work great!!! The first pic is of my st croix legend that comes like this from the factory

This is my premier rod with my install of the bobber. All I did was place the guide/grommet where I thought would work best and glued it on with a tiny dap of superglue. Then I took some rod making thread and wrapped it on for a more secure fit. Then I took some nail hardener stuff from my wifes stash and coated the thread with 2 coats. I think its called sally hansen tough as nails. Had an older guy in a tackle store tell me buying actual rod building epoxy wasnt necessary for the small amount Id need to use it for.

This is the rod Ive been using for my walleye fishing. Its just a 3ft bass pro shops cheapo I paid $20 for. It was actually listed as a kayak rod. Its about the perfect length and I saw no real reason I couldnt make do with it for walleye. Walleye around here arent giants, and I kept getting crappie and white bass hitting on my smaller jiggin raps, so I think the spring bobber will help alot on this rod especially since its not the most sensitive.

The only 3 rods I need! All with springs!

Im pretty happy how they turned out. Will work great for me. Been wanting to add some good springs to these rods for awhile and finally got em done.

Do you happen to know the size of guide you used?

For storage in summer, I take a 1/8" drill bit and push the spring out of grommet and put back in protective case that it came in, so as not to damage the spring!!  Use the other end of drill bit , not the sharp end!

Guide can be bought at any bait store that has eyelets, grommet can be bought at hardware store or like a home depot!

I wish some would start making replacement springs for less than $12-15. Best bobber on the market that i used so far, but man thats a lot of money for a little spring.

I've never had any problems with my springs. I've also never paid $12-15 for one either.

Just like anything fishing or hunting related, if it works good and reasonably priced better buy a bunch, cause they will quit making it or make it out of your price range before long.  Bought about 10 springs about 5 yrs ago for $9.99 each

Yea and when you look at what a guy spends on flashers, portables, heaters, etc. $10 - $15 for a spring bobber that works as good as they do, isn't that bad.
