What is this Jigging Spoon called?
« on: Dec 10, 2010, 01:29 AM »

I think it was called an airplane jigging spoon or something.  Don't remember who made it or it's actual name.  It's basically operates on the same principal as a Lindy Rattl'N Flyer Spoon, only without any rattles.  It also looks like a Swedish Pimple but with some airplane wings on it.

Anyone know something about it?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks...Funny how the old mind forgets things.  That just jogged the memory and I remember that Vingla name.  Just couldn't remember what that attached to.  ;D

The lures works with about equal success as normal Swedish Pimple's do for me.  When one doesn't work, the other one will work.  I actually like this lure better than my Swedish Pimples.  I kind of safeguard it as one of my secret weapons.  I like how it flutters and rocks down through the water column.  Some days that's what gets me the bite instead.

I've seen these online but thanks for posting these picks, they look a little different than I thought.  I'll have to try them...and you also changed your avatar or whatever you call it...looks like you did a little modding on one of those new Northland Minnows...looks good. Have you tried these yet?

I haven't used it under the ice yet.  I will be soon enough.  Those Northland Live Forage are gonna be heavily used by me this season.  I've been getting more and more into using blade baits and trap lures for ice fishing ever since Chubby Darters came along.

Im not sure it is the Vingla, it looks very similar, but the the wings are bent the wrong way and they dont usually have the bump you can see in the left hand spoon. I will  post a pic of my vingla later.

something looks off, I cant place it.

I guess if I order some Vingla's, I will definitely be able to tell if they're different.  Bait monkey bite!  :o

So far the profile seems to be matching these as well.  Maybe the one's I got could've been a imitation lure.  I can't remember, it's been more than a few years.  The glow tape is exactly the same as the ones you will find on the Swedish Pimple sold back then as well.

took a look at mine, best way to describe it is a pimple with wings, could just be the size that threw me off, mine have a longer slender profile,, but smaller modles may be a bit wider. Also I dont know if you added the piece on top of the lure, but pimples dont usually come with those

That's just the glow strip that came with it.  I've seen pimples the come with it as well.  They have changed strips somewhat since then.  The one's I have are the smallest ones and it does basically match the profile of the larger one as well.  I suppose, it does follow suit that the larger Pimples are more slender as well.

Sorry to clarify, I meant the barrel swivel piece on the top, I was not sure if it came that way or if you added it.

I added the barrel swivel.  I like how it allows an easier flutter of the of lure.  Pluse it ups my confidence and gives me a more secure knot position vs on the split ring.

I agree with the knot thing...I dont feel confident tying directly to pimples. It just doesnt seem right.

I started setting up a rod for spoons, the slender spoon from CJ&S comes with a snap, that easily interchanges for other spoons including pimple. makes life easier

all of those are vinglas, the vingla is a style/shape not a brand-ish whatever you call it.
icejunky, good move with a rod for spoons, i've got one rod that i've set up specifically for fishing jigging spoons, and it's helped me through a lot of on/off bites.

great little lure! vingla does sound right for the name and the look. the one i have has a sliver of green reflective tape on it. works like a charm for most of the species around me!
