has any 1 ever tryed to salt or dye frozen smelt or minnows  for pike bait

I've salted bait before, it helps firm up smelt.

But sometimes those big toothy buggers seem to want the soft stuff over the salted stuff.  I primarily use my salted smelt/herring for Laker fishing...
