Hey livon,

My mother lives in hamilton county and I make a point of fishing briggs or brushy every time I go down.  Is briggs back up to its normal level yet?

Just got back from Brushy and I would still be there fishing if had taking my bait & rods to work with me  I drilled about a dozen holes off the north boat ramp and found the ice to be 4-4.5" with the bottom 3" of clear ice and the top 1.5" a snow ice mixture. I got about 10-15 yards off the boat ramp. there were 2 guys in a 2 man frabill about 50 yards east of the boat ramp, back towards the foot bridge.then I went over near the handicapped fishing dock, near the circle drive area and drilled about 7 holes about 3' apart out from shore and found the ice to be a good 6" all the way out. It was harder to tell due to the shade I was in, but the bottom 4" looked to be good clear ice. Checked a hole someone drilled off the south boat ramp and it wasn't much over 2" so I turned around and left that area. I didn't see any open water. It was hard to tell how the ice was frozen next to the trees due to the snow pac. I didn't want to venture out that far by myself, but it looked all locked up

My brother used to work for the county and he did electro-shocking and trapnetting on Briggs.  There are some nice crappies in there.

I've been told to get on top of the trees for the crappies. The trees are pretty close to shore on the north end back towards the foot bridge. Use caution and use your spud bar as you work your way out. I may go over tomorrow after work if I get off before dark and check the ice again. Hopefully it's thicker

Just got back from checking the ice again and there was between 2.5-5" of clear ice in areas around the north, west and south boat ramps. The clear ice had anywhere from 1-2 " of snow/white ice on top. About 8 shacks out past the tree line off the north boat ramp. The north end had the thinnest ice. take a spud bar and be careful as there are some thin areas. Both of the bays I checked had the thickest ice. A couple of younger guys fishing on the south end had a half a bucket full of gills, so they were biting.

Dad was out on brushy today and had very little luck a couple of small crappie.  He said the ice was about 4-5" at best out from the North boat dock. He said around the trees, expecially the big oak trees the ice thins to 1-2". So be careful! But I plan on being out there saturday.

Very few pearch are being caught, by me any ways. lol. Some on the roadbeds where we found a few walleye. no size to em either. Must be too cold for the big ones to bite. Will try a new place next week and see what happens.
