It's not over boys...just running a little late. I remember just a few years ago I was on good ice in April. More cold weather on the horizon.

Local weather just showed highs in the 20's,  lows in the teens near the end of next week. If the snow stays away 🤔

I'm be looking around the line tomorrow.  Should be able to find ice where it was last time. Been cold enough at the state line for a few days.  Low teens tonight will be making ice!

As far as asking where goes I don't think you're going to get and replies with so little skinny ice out there.  Not safe and even less safe when the crowd shows up.

I heard people were creeping out on 3-4 inches on sag bay.... I need a hair more than that for the bay....

C'mon. Somebody says somebody was on 3.5" somewhere in Michigan. That means nothing. It would be helpful to give a general idea of where. Mention county, around the line, sag bay. That's all good. Please don't give me this condescending crap about a crowd showing up. We're all trying to get general ideas about ice conditions.

The point is that there is 3.5" south of the border in Indiana (in very isolated areas of some lakes) and there's still jacksicles going through the ice on Houghton.   When the conditions are like this which county the guy is in has nothing to do with it.  If you want an general idea of the ice conditions from Fort Wayne Indiana to Grayling MI,  it is SKETCHY!  North of Grayling there is SOME good ice.

A general idea on ice conditions will get you wet without a spud bar and even then you might get wet.  Be safe!

In absolute all seriousness this is the most accurate ice report I’ve heard all season.

I’ve been out twice this season and the first time was before Christmas. The last time was 3 days ago before a bunch of snow came. Ice was still 3-4 inches and that’s on small water. I don’t think I have to say it hasn’t been by choice. Add the snow and “general” advice can make for a real bad day especially if you're just hunting for a location with zero knowledge of the water someone told you was “safe”.  Hope those 3.5 inches aren’t covering springs.

Not to mention most users have their locations posted underneath their usernames. That’s pretty darn “general” if you ask me.

17 degrees, South Central MI. It always cracks me up when I go out the check the ice with my inexpensive spud, and I see where someone is checking the thickness with a much more expensive auger. Unaware of thickness, because standing over it pushing down cutting a 4"-6" hole won't weaken that 2" ice at all.
I have a BS in Narrative Fishing History.
