Where are you originally from???
« on: Jan 31, 2010, 11:50 PM »
Where are you originally from?  I have to ask since Idaho doesn't have too many native ice fishing fanatics.  I, was born in raised in northern Michigan, so ice fishing for me ranks right up there with breathing!

Originally from Alaska. My parents moved here when I was 2 years old. I have been here ever since. My father was also born and raised in Idaho.

Pocatello--southeast Id.----originally and still.  Actually, Id has a LOOOOOOng ice fishing history--lots of northern european backgrounds here.  We're only recently targeting fish other than trout!

Hell Raisin' Hoosier here. My dad was a real fishing fanatic but never iced it in Indy. I can't handle sittin around thinkin there's no good fishing goin on. Remember, if it's raining down low then it's snowing on the ice and that makes for a great day of fishing!!! GO COLTS!!!!!!!!

;D  Great to see some natives that are ice fishermen!!!!  I am simply amazed at all the people around here that love to fish, but have never been on a frozen lake in there life!!!  My goal is to triple the number of ice fishermen in the Moscow area.  As you MidWesterners know, ice fishing is a SOCIAL EVENT!  It is not like a secret brookie beaver pond, or a morel mushroom hotspot...you know, the things you take to your grave! ;D

My mom's tummy.

Sorry, Just got off the ice (thru 4" of mud goo for 150').

Born near a north flowing river. Its not the Nile.

St. Johns in NE Florida. Required 28 years to come to my senses and go west.

Ten years in SoCal and 8 million ppl later, most of whom were in my space, was reason enough to look for remote land.

Now, 35 yrs. and 35 mi. SW of Libby, I'm trying to live happily ever after.

Wishing I'd been in the Ice Belt all along.

BTW, 35 mi. SW of Libby is also about 12 mi. NE of Sandpoint, as the crow flies.

Tight lines and stay on top!

            Tom
                        ;)

p.s. If I moved once more, I'd be livin' north of the Mackinac Bridge, Mi. and a bit west, for sure.

Oklahoma !
Then off to California to search for Gold. Moved to Idaho 7 years ago (should have 20 years ago).
Discovered Ice Fishing  10 years ago and LOVE it ! As soon as Waterfowl Season is over I head for hard water until ice out. I favor Perch fishing (& Crappie if I can find them) but just ENJOY being out there!
Good Fishing

Used to live in Sault Ste. Marie, MI and loved fishing the little brookie lakes north of Newberry.  I absolutely LOVE the good country we have here in Idaho.  But I miss, the LOW REAL ESTATE PRICES of Da' UP!

Jim, would those be close to the Tahquamenon or as far up near Little Two Hearted Lake.
I have some good memories that only involve a few hours on lollygag trip thru there several times.

See ya on the ice.

Tom, my favorite wasn't quite that far north.  Silver Creek Pond was only a few miles north, and a few miles west, of Newberry.  Catching 14" brookies in the float tube all day long.  My ice fishing was mostly in the northern lower peninsula around Atlanta.  Used to fish some small lakes in the area for SMELT!!!  Man, I miss smelt through the ice!
