One more week is my best guess, I got some friends trying out some Alpena area ice this weekend, but I haven't heard of anyone going out yet. I think Houghton is frozen end to end, but that's still thin ice bud  :-\

Patience, I hope the snow/ rain mix doesn't get too severe down here. That could ruin a very good start. I am crossing my fingers to be out on a certain small pond next weekend if the weather holds.

A few large first freeze lakes were locked up around here but these strong winds opened them back up. I just need open water for tomorrow and Sundasy mrning to kill some late season ducks. THEN I will be ready to hit the hardwater.

They are saying 40 for Sat and Sun but the lows were still in the twenties for next weekend but that is pretty far off yet. I hope that's not the beginning of a......ech.....warm front. I hope that it is Mother Nature saying "come out and fish on the ice in 40 degree weather, you can catch tons of fish and then I'll cool down again for the week." (ok, that's too much wishful thinking!)

everyday the forecast get's colder and colder!  let's not jink the forecast by talking about it to early.  i did this many times last year.  lol!  early this week they said sunday was going to be in the low to mid forties, now there saying upper thirties!  so as this front moves closer and closer it's getting colder also!  let's hope for the average temps with no warm fronts and we will be ok.
when fisherman fish alone, do they really catch fish??

Tomorrow looks to be the only day to worry about. After that, nothing but COLD.Going to check out the marl pits later today after walking, running and jumping down the Joslin lake canal all the way to the lake.. Also know of a few little ponds that just might be fishable!

Petoskey is a 4 hour drive for me. Would it be worth it. How big is Crooked Lake? What is in it?

Personally I wouldn't drive an hour to fish crooked lake. If you check out this it will tell you about it, http://fishweb.com/maps/emmet/crookedlake/. Only part of the lake looks good between ponshewaing and oden island bridge is good, 3.5-4". The rest looks dark and thin, I haven't gotten close enough to the dark stuff to check it. Lots of walleye but they tend to be small, ok perch somedays, lots of hammerhadles.

That sucks. I so bad want to go out. I know I need to have patience before anyone tells me. However, I'm not a doctor so I don't care about patients!!!!!!
