perch spawning grounds
« on: Feb 13, 2008, 12:37 PM »
i have heard that perch like to lay their eggs on weeds. So is sand bottom or  muck bottom preferred for actual spawning? I would think sand. and what type weeds? Seems like a lot of the time that i have seen guys perch fishing shallow on sand flats the weeds are sparse coontail that is pretty much laying on the bottom(one here, one there). Doesn't seem like the eggs would be that protected?  will they lay eggs in heavy dead weeds? Looking for others thoughts on what is the ideal spawning habitat.
There is only one theory about angling in which I have perfect confidence, and this is that the two words, least appropriate to any statement, about it, are the words "always" and "never."

We usually head for the reeds towards ice out and have a good time.
