I saw one of those "Q" grills as advertised on the infomercials and they are pretty nice. Compact and pretty powerful, if you can handle the $80 price tag at BJ's Wholesale. Good tailgating grills too!!!!
Otherwise go for the old Goatboy grill. A small round Webber charcoal grill. The coals stay hot for a long time and it's good to warm the hands on.

i use a propane cooking ring when i want to deep fry fish and fries....a habachi for doing burgers and dogs....but overall, most of the cooking is done right in the shanty on the good old wood cookstove....just about every single day starts with bacon, eggs and hashbrowns...well..... maybe coffee with a little butterscotch ripple....mmmm....can almost taste it already....maybe, this coming weekend, i should have a practice session.....anyone game?? ;D...Grump

I'm in GM! The coffee with butterscotch ripple sounds tasty. Now I just need directions from Pennsylvania. lol  ;D

yeah the Q grill actually works really good and for a portable grill you can cook a lot of food.

Propane cookstove in the shack for venison, potatoes or whatever else I might want.  For brats and burgers I get out the Smokey Joe (small Weber).  I usually drill a hole next to it so I can jig as I cook.  Thinking about trying beer can chickens this winter once.

Even though I prefer charcoal (by far) I would go with a table top propane unit for the ice just because it's cleaner. I wouldn't want to chance losing ashes on the ice on the way out.

In my neck of the woods when we sled in to trout lakes and such we carry old racks from stoves or fridges. As long as they aren't coated with plastic or anything. Then we cook over fire using whatever deadfall and wood we find. Beats carrying BBQ's and propane tanks or charcoal.
Deer and moose sausage on a BBQ just doesn't seem right to me when I'm ice fishing ;D

I use and old 5 pound coffee can, drilled holes in the sides all around about 2 inches above the bottom and a small wire grate.  I place 4 balled up pieces of newspaper in the bottom and then fill the can 3/4 with charcoal.  Light the paper through one of the holes and wait for the coals to ash over.  Works great just make sure you put the paper and charcoal in plastic bags before you go out.  Will cook 4 skewers of venison speidies in no time.

Good ole wood fire on the ice, and use my skimmer for a pan. Nice long handle keeps you safe. Plus the holes in the skimmer make neat "grill" maks on the bread! Skimmer grilled smoked turkey and horseradish cheese sammy's! :-*
Looking forward to some "crappie" nights!

It goes into your hitch..... I'm sure that you could weld something up for a tongue and stinger to also tow a trailer with the sled or 4 wheeler on it.
