Jawjacker rod and line
« on: Jan 12, 2018, 05:58 PM »
Plan on picking up a jawjacker to mainly use for bows. Will fish eggs occasionally, but mostly smelt and small shiners. Looking for a rod and length recommendation for that.
Also are you running braid or mono? Do you want some stretch with mono or is braid better? Sometimes fish close to bottom in 10 to 12 feet in one area. Will mono have too much stretch for a good hook set?

For bows I use a 28" Ugly Stick medium action. On my 30" MH combos for lake trout I use fireline but in my shallower water setups I just use 6lb mono. I will add, the 28" ugly stik does not seem to get as good of a hook up ratio in deeper water. I was using them yesterday 20' down and lost a few fish, which usually doesn't happen when it is set to shallow.
