Goal 1) Load up on smelts in the early season in the ice shack for bait for later on.
Goal 2) Use smelts caught in early season to venture further out for hake and shark. (will need a power auger this year as drilling through 3 feet of ice with a hand auger takes a toll on you when drilling more than 5 holes).

Had a blast with the hake these last two years, and want to get more hard-core with this. We even catch the odd shark like this spiny dogfish we caught two winters ago:

Don't live up there anymore but still where I primarily go to fish and ill be the first to say I cant really see a reason to go elsewhere that's not a full amenities paid trip. Sandhills lakes are the best. Some of the small private backhills lakes are quite the gems.

My goals for this winter (in no particular order):

Use my one-man shanty I bought last year and couldn't use due to an injury.
Fish different lakes.
Bring home more fish.
Introduce my brother-in-law to ice fishing.

My goals are:

1) To get out with my kids at least a handful of times.

2) To try a lake I haven't tried before

3) To stay above the ice and safe, setting a good example for the younger ones.

Nate
