It's coffee on the ice and adult beverages at home, while reflecting on my or our day of bliss.
-
I usually bring a thermos of hot water then I can make a cup of tea or instant soup. Once off the ice Glogg (Swedish - Scandinavian drink) I use a premade mix ,one part mix to one part hot water or one part mix to one part rum, vodka or red wine. (Heat without boiling if using cold water or the alcohol.
See the hard water cuisine forum look for thread "What's in your thermos" .
Steve
-
While ice fishing it's almost always VitaminWater and Bud Light. Although i've been known to have a sip of the occasional bottle of blackberry brandy, Maker's Mark, or schnapps that gets handed around. ;)
Before i hit the ice, i gotta have my coffee.
-
Not too big on the alcohol thing any more so it's Coke for me .
-
I start out with the good ole cup o joe in the morning then switch to Jamesons and Canada Dry or a few Miller Lites. I don't usually hit the booze too hard out on the ice as I like to be as mobile as neccessary. Although I have been know to tie a good one on from time to time.(Never if I drive though) :P
-
Allen's Ginger brandy. And lot's o beer of course!

I agree so much...I drink cappicino (spelling) I dont care to drink booze to much...takes away from the important fishing thats being done.

Drank enough booze to float a barge in a previous life, so I'm mostly a coffee man. Diet Pepsi is always a winner, too. Every now and then, MOXIE!!!!!!!!!!

Water. coke. or coffee on the ice. A beer or 2 after I get home if with friends. 25 year ago, my answer would have been more like some of that blackberry brandy. Am more serious about my fishing these days (and about making it home in one piece as well).

Sprecher does a great job with all of their sodas - you will love the root beer. If you like orange, then try their dreamsicle FABULOUS!! They also make a superior line of beers as well (no - I am not a sales rep for them).
Hot coco to start then add a little peppermint later on - then a few beers (no alcohol if I'm driving) and we do a pull off the bottle of Oberguetz (some call it a snoshoe - 3/4 brandy 1/4 peppermint) when a fish is caught. Always have a few bottles of water and a dt mt dew along as well.
While on our annual trip (Lac Vieux Dessert in Vilas Cty WI) we will fish out in front of the cabin and bring a 1/2 barrel out on the ice with us. This gets a few looks from the passerbys - If you are in the area and see us please stop by I'll be happy to buy you one.
-

Coffee early in the morning - maybe take a pull of whiskey now and then. Afternoon it's beer. Always have water or powerades in supply.
If my father-in-law comes out, he makes raspberry bounce and strawberry cordial. Holy Cow.

I like a nice cold beer...not picky on what type, as I like trying new flavours. I do remember my best day out was when I took a swig of vanilla vodka that I had in my flask every time I iced a fish...never iced so many trout before :D So the flask comes out at least once a season!
-
cheap beer, usually the stuff you buy in a 30 pack for less than you can buy a 12 pack of anything tollerable. This year I bought a bota though, so I might become a wino.
-
Thermos of coffee and if im not the driver a case of Busch and a water bottle full of makers mark /tangle ridge/ booker/bakers or any delicious bourban or whiskey ;D Warms the body up ::)

Coffee in the mornings. I might Irish it up a little if I have the day off. Water the rest of the day. A few beers if I'm staying out, maybe. A good stout or porter served in a frosty mug is nice... so is a 12er of High Life.
-

Hot coffee for the ride. A little later I'll brew up some espresso and spice it up with some zambuca. Jeznow(blackberry brandy) is always welcome. If I'm spending the night it's Captain Morgan and ginger ale. 1 dwi is enough.
-
Start out the morn with expresso from the home machine, off to dunkins for a Hazelnut Regular, usually kill that on the ride. Then its Mountain Dew -the rocket fuel of IceFishinChampions! I save the Patron for when I`m back home.
-
I'm with DasRottweiler. I drink a pot of coffee before I leave the house. Stop and grab another for the ride while I stock up with more caffiene for the day. A couple dew's or pepsi's, a 5 hour energy shot, and a tallboy iced latte. When I go it's going to be a heartattack on the ice. I don't drink much at all during the ice season. It interferes too much with my ice fishing. Plus my girl isn't on the ice with me to drive my butt home.

Homemade hard cider.
-
I actually have an edible crab apple tree in my yard and we harvest every year and make cider out of it. other than that coffee is always good. this year we'll break out the beer. ;)
-
how about posting that cider recipe.......I usually have a few light beers, some schnapps to go in the cocoa,,,,generally have the kids with me, so trying not to teach them that ice fishing is a big booze fest......and I like to usually have my witts about me,,,,,I know, not much fun.....but i would like that cider recipe
-
Voted best beer in America in 1893 Pabst Blue Ribbon for afternoons / evenings, or mountain dew if I am out in the morning.
-
perchnut, it's actually really easy to do, take your selected bunch of crab apples and cut them from the core. be sure to cut around worm spots. leave the skin on, it has a lot of flavor and will add a very nice color to the cider. put them in a pot and cover with water. i usually like to have the apples come up to about 3/4 of the pot and go about an inch over them with the water. simmer the apples until they are relatively transparent. simmer for about 15 minutes after that. next take a strainer and cover it with cheese cloth and strain into another container for the time being. sugar the fresh brew to taste and then put back into pot and simmer until the sugar dissolves. i will add 1-2 cinnamin sticks if we want to have that extra flavor. after the sugar has dissolved go ahead and take off the heat. enjoy when it's hot or you can bottle it and warm it up another time. hope it works well for you, it is really very easy and it looks and tastes great. enjoy!
perchpunk
p.s. you can use regular apples if you don't have an edible crab apple tree. and make sure the apples are edible.
-
coffee royal in the a.m.,hard cider in the p.m.
-
Homemade hard cider.
ooohhhhhh yyyeeeaaaa

Usually coffee or hot cocoa in the morning. I drank a lot of hard cider in the afternoon last year but now that I'm homebrewing, that will be my first choice. I have plans to do about 10 more gallons of a porter that I love so much.
-
BUTTERRIPPLE!!!!
-

Last weekend I heard my buddy use the term "Jack Daniels Internal Sweater"...
I am definately highjacking that term this winter.
But I'll probably have to alter it to Jim Beam on the weekend trips 8)

I usually start with a latte, 79 degrees, decaff, with soymilk. Next I have a glass of Merlot followed by a gin martini, two olives. For desert I have a chocolate milk shake made with skim milk and frozen yogart.
Just Kidding. ::) Always a Stanley of black coffee. And then depending on the mood and if I don't have to drive I might bring out either a fine Maine microbrew or a PBR. Although that list up there does have me thinking.
-
If im not driving i bring a 12 pack of blue light/miller light
If im driving its mnt.dew/dr.pepper/gatorade and tim hortons coffee.

Of course, use your best judgement...I never drink more than a few over many hours....best to be alert, on the ice and on the drive home. Coffee is a must have in the am...brewed with my stovetop perc....HOT.
I always hope that the fishing is way too fast to have time for a quite one, but that doesn't happen enough!
-
fresh made green tea before noon and single malt scotch around brunch o'clock.

If you ever find yourself in NH, stop by for a cup. I always have bags and sugar. ;D

Back in the day, a cold bottle of Yuengling used to hit the spot very Nicely ! When I was was younger and fished with my Grandpa, I can remember most of the old timers had flasks of Brandy or Schnapps in various flavors ! Ahh the good old days ! :roflmao:
-
Surf the only prob with bringing alcohol on the ice is Fish and Game. I dont know if you do fish Winnipesaukee or not, but the Fish and Game Wardens will drop by every so often. So some Jack Daniels is not a good thing when they come.
-
Like I said back in the day, many moons ago when people were more tolerable of somebody having a nip on the ice ! I know most of the F&G officers by name and some of the Biologists, never had trouble with them ! Having a cold one or a nip or two is up to the individual, if someone is out of control, then they will deal with it !
-
Again, hot coffee
-
That makes sence Surf. I dont personally know any F&G officers around here but they are nice guys.
-
Though it may be unfortunate that my life began in the deep south, their most used beverage has stuck in my mind and is often taken on the ice in a thermos.

-
I discovered a new cold weather drink. We found a thing of concentrated apple cider this fall when we were apple picking. And then I realized how tasty it is warmed up when mixed with vodka. So I'll probably have a thermos with me on the ice this year.

Steve
Steve,,, What mix do you use???

Tom and Jerrys. Equal amounts of brandy and rum to fill your mug to 1/3. Batter to taste. (batter is available in most liquor and grocery stores or you can pull a recipe off the web.) fill with hot water. Add nutmeg, cinnamon or both. What more can I say? ENJOY! Bourbon instead of brandy will make it a little less sweet but the batter is so sweet it's not a big difference. Cripes, now I want one.
-
Gatorade for me. If the kids are with me I bring hot chocolate.
-
Hot Green Tea w/ Honey for me (Coffee - pee too much then)
Hot Cocoa for my son

Iced Tea in the morning; while I getting my stuff together a blast of whiskey or 2.
Then on the ice Only 2 Old Style Beers, and a lot of bottled water.

Now if I am in the boat and not driving I will have more then the fish can drink
-
Diet dew, diet green tea,hot chocolate,or coffee with French vanilla creamer. Not much for booze on ice because I like to fish more than drink.

I always take something hot. Usually black coffee or some hot chocolate. If I'm planning to sit in the shack I'll take some Bush Light. Otherwise I won't mess with beer if I'm hole hopping.
-
Since we have no ice, I'm enjoying this! Was able to get 2 pints! Wife took a sip and now is licking the dogs butt.

I refuse to consume any products made by Annheiser-Busch. I'm still pissed about the '82 World Series. Anyone drinking any of their crap who claims to be a Brewer fan needs to be kicked in the gonads.
I do my best to support my local brewery so for beer 95% of the time it's either Point Special or one of the other products made by the Stevens Point Brewery. If not Point then it's Schlitz. People laugh about drinking Schlitz and if they do they haven't had it since they reintroduced their classic recipe. The new (old recipe) stuff is great. Since there's a Sun-Drop bottling plant near my hometown I'll go with Sun-Drop for a non-alcoholic choice. This isn't the Sun-Drop you see in cans or plastic bottles but instead it's in 16oz returnables, tastes a whole lot different than the imitation canned stuff, and has fruit pulp floating around in it.
-
hot coffee in the am pm afternoon evening and ive found angry >:(orchard cider since i need to eat fermented foods lol

Somehow, Bailey's Irish Cream finds a way into my thermos of coffee. Have also found Yuengling in my sled on occasion...whatever your choice, please...drink responsibly.
-
I believe to each his own and don't want to start anything guys, but I was curious. Is alcohol on the ice really a very good idea? Haven't drank for 25 years now and I've only been ice fishing 7-8 years so never combined the two. I'm quite sure it can make for an enjoyable day on the ice, but I was just concerned about the safety factor. just my 2 cts worth
-
yeeeaaah, well, if I'm walking on 4 or 5 inches of ice I'm less likely to be hitting the hard stuff but drinking a beer or 2 ain't gonna get me stumbling around. But when I'm standing on a foot or more of ice I'll have a beer any time and I love a quick jolt of something harsh.
Most of my buddies drink PBR's but I like Yuengling lagers and I'll drink some Old Ezra or Jack's Old No.7 before some of that syrupy sweet stuff.
-
I never liked beers out on the ice in my drinking days. seems like guys that drink them piss all over the ice.disgusting hahaha
-
Really? Guys normally need to P on the ice with or w/o beer. Covered with snow it's not an eyesore. It's nearly sterile so very little pollotion on the lake.

come check out lakes here in Michigan after a tourney.yellow ice from the early morning partiers looks like a concert.and I carry a bottle with me for that.ill keep my money in my pocket and not piss it on the ground.jmo
-
no, I gotta agree with the Dr. I cringe when I see a guy taking a leak on the ice cuz it doesn't "soak in", it just spreads out. If I'm close to an edge I'll take a walk, if not I'll use a jug.
-
i bring one beer in case i run out of coffee.
most pee on the edge of the ice or bottles.
-
Busch light. Can pound them down and not get to tipsy. Just enough to feel good and I take it slow. I ain't a drunk ice fisher! I just do it because that's what minnesotans do! I live on the lake so I just walk back to my house that's a 5 minute walk to my back door

Hi, normally hot tea in the morning; then a splash or two of Canadian whisky, while getting spikes or maggots, I pull on Old Style beers on the ice maybe 2 or 3, and cold tea {I am a tea freak}, My other two partners in crime that I ice fish with, one drinks coffee and later in the afternoon has a Gator-Ade, and the other one has tea with whiskey {I think that it is Crown}

Lately, just an ice cold iced tea. But sometimes a beer or 2 and sometimes I'll have a taste of something stronger... just to fight the chill ;)
-
Miller light (when the case starts to freeze, I begin staging them down my bibs), and Jack Dainel's Tennessee Fire. Without it, my fish count seems to go down. :-\
-
Some hot earl grey tea out of the thermos.
-
Tea with honey and jack manhattans when back home
-
On the ice - coffee w/maple syrup. Home - a few LBs (from bottles).

I started making wine and mead this spring, not sure What type I want to brew up for this coming season.

Seeing double does help with the fish count...lol...h2l
-
Thermos of coffee in the morning, yellow-bellies after the sun warms me up, and a flask of peppermint schnapps for celebratory swigs. Found some maple whiskey that might be making an appearance this ice season, too.
-
On the ice...Gatorade or water. Back at the ranch...a couple of White Russians with my homemade Kahlua.
-
Mid-morning a steaming mug of Yorkshire Gold black tea brewed sledside on my little cookset. With milk, please. Comforting, warming, and invigorating. Later on, perhaps a swig of Norwegian Linie Akavit from a pocket flask. Important to stay hydrated.
-
Especially if I'm doing a lot of walking and dragging, water and Gatorade. If I drink soda or beer I cramp up like crazy once I'm done.
-
Water for me. P in a plastic container.
-
My routine nowadays is alot different than years ago.low carb monster or sugar free rockstar in the morning followed by water or diet dew.used to be a 5th of jim beam or old crow with some coca cola all day.lol
-
Dunkin Donuts Iced coffee in the morning, then anything with the word beer in it after that. And just in case, Leroux polish blackberry brandy when it gets nasty out ;D

Are you talking about Sortilege Maple Whiskey? That stuff is my jam!
-
Switch Back Ale for me. 2nd go to Bush Lite or Bud Lite

If I am fishing wi the kids, no alcohol. Good strong Black Coffee and some cocoa for the boys. If I am out with my buddies, Irish Coffee's in the morning. (Coffee, Jameson, and Irish Cream Liqueur.) After the Coffee is gone, it is all about paying respect to my fishing partners that have passed! 16 oz. Hamm Sammiches, or crapty Schmidt-ies. I enjoy Hamms, but the first few Schmidt's are rough. For the record, I will drink anything. If we fish the big ice house, I have a box of assorted airplane bottles. I grab two or three every time I am at a checkout where they sell them right there on the counter. If you catch a keeper walleye, you have to randomly grab one from the box! Just for fun! The grapefruit jalapeno vodka is horrible! I love reading what people drink on the ice!
-
My buds and I fish out iin the open so a cold beer is the last thing on our minds---now, once I get home a nice cold beer is fantastic to celebrate success or drown my sorrows(just kidding about that last part). A thermos of tea for me.
-
Yellow gatorade.

I enjoy a magnum of Krug, perhaps backed by a double snifter of Henri IV Dudognon Heritage Cognac if it's chilly on the ice.
Of course one must ALWAYS match the libation to the quarry sought. Can you imagine how gauche it would be, fishing for walleye while sipping a Penfolds Grange 1951? The horror, the horror...

water
-
PBR hard coffe in the morning (NOT the hard cold brew!).
Recently started taking a thermos of hot cocoa with a couple ounces of coconut rum in it.
Beer, any variety, but i usually stick to Mich Ultra or Sam Adams if I'm feeling fancy. (Oscar blues has a great 100 calorie IPA called One-Y that i like, when i can find it)
Also bring a large water bottle, but i often don't drink it until I'm on my way home.
-
strong coffee for me most of the time but monster(blue can) will work if no coffee ;D ;D
Both at once. Brew your coffee with an energy drink instead of water.
-
Still drinking the low carb monster or zero sugar rockstar out there.
-
Same as I drink on land, Fosters green oil can or my homebrew.
-
Black coffee. And lots of loading the fish whistle, if the fish aren't cooperating.
-
Budwieser, the good Dr. and Blackberry brandy
-
2022 was the first season I really enjoyed some bourbon out there...Angel Envy Bourbon was a constant for me this season which is aged in Port Wine barrels. Very nice!
