Title: Eagle Claw Inline Ice Reel
Post by: 74redone on Oct 13, 2012, 09:46 PM
Okay I just got two new TBROS Power noodles. What do you guys rec for reels? I've used the President 6725's and they were pretty nice but seemed a little stiff to reel. I never did take it apart and clean it,but maybe I should have. Any way I fish water thats only 20-30 FOW so I dont need a lot of line capacity but I've heard you get less line twist with a larger spool. Thanks for the help!

I love my presidents!  I use the 20's tho.  I also have 4 Mitchell avocets in the 500's.  The presidents get put on my thornebros rods and the Mitchell's on the others.  I do tear all my reels down and relube with hot sauce oil and frabills sub zero grease....smooooth at any temp. I would recommend trying one fly reel or one the new straight line reels but 20+ft is a lil deep but would work.  The powernoodle I have has a okuma slv 2/3 on it and is awesome for shallow water panny's.   Without getting into $100+ reels I feel the president is the best out there for lite weight setups if not using a fly reel of some variation....the drag has never failed me.

If you have stiff reels you need some Hot Sauce oil for them.

I just ordered a Power Noodle. I plan to put on a Shimano Sedona or Sahara 500. If you don't mind spend $60+ for a reel go with either. If you want to spend less look at the Shimano Sienna 500 which is $30 at most places. I have a few of them and they are the best bang for the buck reels out there IMO.

These were pretty hot last year.
They have a new model with an aluminum spool this year for more $$

Looks like Cabelas has both in stock:

I had about a half dozen of them.
The best feature by far (other than price) was the push button free spool.

These Inline Fly Type ice reels are great for no line twist. But having to hand pull line out every time you drop down is no fun.

With the eagle claw you didnt have to hand pull line out. Push a button and your on your way.
